    Unlicensed stallions and overbreeding.

They would be registered in the relevant studbook in whichever country they were born and perhaps overstamped by their respective breed studbook if in another country.

I am sorry Rollin, but you will have to clarify your comments! Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, my remarks are aimed at UK based stallions and UK bred foals!

    Show stallion for my mare?

Along with being a winner in the show jumping and dressage arena's and been hunting, Legrande is also a champion ridden show horse :-)

My pennies worth :-) There are no guarantees where breeding is concerned, it's a lottery, you can put the best with the best and end up with nothing special, that has been proven time and time again. However, if you put the worst with the worst, then you are almost certain to get nothing more...

Those with stallions...what age did you first breed with them?

My stallion was graded at 4, then went under saddle for another 2 years before I considered using him for breeding. He had to prove to me that he not only had the ability to do the work, but he also had a trainable, even temperament to go along with it. I can't see how any stallion owner can...

    Meet Monty!!!!

I have just googled 'black shetland foal' pics and it does indeed seem that they are almost all born with lighter coloured fluff in their ears, I never knew that, so cute :D

    Meet Monty!!!!

It is the colour inside his ears that has thrown me!!! I can see he is going to be black, but don't understand why his ear colour is so different!!! Are all black shetlands born with creamy hair in their ears?

    Meet Monty!!!!

Ahhh he is adorable, what colour was dad, as he looks like he might carry the dilute gene and be a smokey black!!!! It is not common for testicles to be descended, but it is not rare either. You might find that they disappear again for a while :-)

    Colour genetic people

My faith will be restored if that happens, however I will not be holding my breath  The mare in question is 20 this year, so not much time left before we give up and retire her to the fillies herd to become a disciplinary aunty to all the young ladies :)
