People can be totally weird. A friend of mine worked for a very big gym chain. She has stories of people dying in the gym, and other people just keep wanting to use the exercise equipment right next to the body. Bonkers.
I hate the way they look, but if I had a younger, more prone-to-athletics horse to ride I would probably prefer them. I have a small bum and long thigh bones, so I have always been pretty much forced to buy the flatter options anyway.
It is raining this weekend where I am in South Africa. Which is a bit pants because my car has been broken the whole week and I didn't get to ride. But maybe I can sneak in quick rides in not-too-squishy arena on Sat/Sun.
I agree with this so much. My instructor is very adamant about jumping out of a rhythm, but I have done this at low levels for long enough to be very very certain that people who believe you don't need to ride for the stride are the ones that can see it and make small adjustments instinctively...
I myself have a constantly high anxiety buzz, so I prefer horses that are laid-back and preferably a bit dopey, because they will inevitably get quite jazzed up after I've been on for a bit. That has so far meant geldings 😁
The Boerperd breed is so lovely. We've got a few studs that are producing awesome all-rounder kind of horses, you see them out and about across all disciplines. The only problem is they are not very big, so they're mostly for junior riders or for dressage riders who prefer smaller horses.
RachelFerd - you're making it look super easy! Send some of your bravery to me here in South Africa ;)
We had a lovely jumping lesson today. Some gymnastic work, thank heavens (because the single jumps that I actually have to turn towards and ride off my eye scare the pants off me).
Gymnastic...
Here in South Africa the next rider is always in the ring with current rider when showjumping. But you can't just trot around through the center of the ring, that's insanity! You walk around the very outside, ALWAYS with your eyes on the current rider.
As an aside, why on earth are you guys referring to horse weight in kilograms and people weight in stone? It is very very strange, and difficult for this South African to follow along. And for every post I have to use a conversion calculator to figure out the metric...
