    Cushings? Thoughts please

I have a native pony with Cushings (PPID) in his late 20s who lives out 24/7 365 days a year with free access to shelter. He had his prascend dose increased from 1/2 to 1 last year after a touch of laminitis. Like you I won't shut him in and if he does get laminitis will probably decide to call...

    Ridiculous horse related injuries…

Loading a pony into a trailer at a show, I had just ducked under the breast bar and passed the rope over the bar to tie her up when for no apparent reason she pulled back and the rope caught round my finger. Luckily the finger was broken and dislocated but stayed attached to my hand. I was on my...

When is it time to call time?

Better a day to soon than a day too late. it's the one thing we can do for animals that we can't do for our fellow humans. It is never easy.

    What is doing this?

Dung beetles. When I am poo picking I always leave a little bit to cover the holes.

Management of Horses and very hot weather

My two oldies are wearing fly rugs which I am pouring a bucket of water over every couple of hours or so. The rugs stay wet longer than their own coats. There has been some research which suggests this. I wear a wet shirt outdoors in this weather and it works for me!!

    Early Cushings Signs ?

I have a pony who was diagnosed with PPID ten years ago at 16. the main symptoms were itchiness, coat changes and mood swings.Like you I could see that he was just not quite right. Prascend has changed his (and my) life. The tests used to be free in the autumn which is when the levels are...

When is mentally damaged too damaged

I had an Exmoor mare many years ago who came to me at age 14 having had 8 different homes in that time. I have kept Exmoors for a long time. She was about my 5th at the time and joined another three. It took several years for her to really relax and for a long time it felt as though she was...

    Turmeraid.... Any positive reviews?

It works very well but is one of the more expensive turmeric supplements on the market. i did some research into what to look for in a turmeric supplement and have found a cheaper one in powder form that works just as well and comes in plastic bags not tubs so slightly less plastic to dispose of.

Help older friend realise she can’t go one with her horse like this ?

You don't say how old your friend is but it sounds as though she is perfectly capable of making her own decisions. I would imagine it is riding and time with her horse that is keeping her sane. Being a carer for a life partner is incredibly difficult emotionally and very stressful. I am an older...
