Yes and No.
I wanted a native, preferably a Highland gelding. Preferred not grey due to being on clay. Didn't mind green or just started, but a nice brain.
Budget didn't allow for that in the end, so ended up with a 2yr old grey Highland mare. With a very forward (dominant) personality, so...
I tried it as my thinking was that the yea sacc, mint etc. Might help settle her stomach and lessen her itching. And save buying multiple supplements.
Seems a little less itchy, but might not feed it long term if no improvement seen when her summer coat comes through fully. Skin doesn't look so...
It doesn't have the intended effect of keeping flies away for my itchy pony. Nor has any other supplement.
But I do use it to help her skin/ guts, seems a little less itchy on it.
I had one with both of my ponies, used for soaking or dry hay as preferred to not use nets. Made soaking much easier, as everything could be done in one area. Would use nets in the cube is needed slowing down.
The only annoying things were that the water wouldn't fully drain, and if using...
Currently look for saddle for my young highland for backing, and the only ones I have found that fit my criteria (straight cut & 2XW/3XW) are Black country and Fiona cork. They are flat enough for a tiny wither, but balanced enough for her width.
GFS may do for a jump/ xc saddle but to be comfy...
I'm another for the engraved old mill saddlery headcollars. I have one that is used in the field daily, doesn't look pretty anymore but no issues with stitching or leather.
I use Bedmax as the main bed, with strawmax underneath. I take the wet patches out every few days and top up the base. I was using too many bedmax a week with my messy one but itself, but have reduced the amount whilst still having a large bed /banks.
Mine has it alongside her flu/tet boosters 6 monthly. First jab was done seperately to check for any side effects, but only had the usual slightly sore injection site.
She has it for my peace, so i'm comfortable when we have new horses on the yard or i'm out competing as not everyone will...
I have the nuumed fairfax liners on both the long and short girths. They don't fit exactly, as a slightly different shaped girth to fairfax. So a little excess around elbows, a little overlap at the centre. Nuumed does do bespoke to pattern, just a little more money.
I had both the long and short versions for my last pony. Was a sensitive soul, so he was more comfortable with nuumed liners. Helped stop the saddle from moving forwards.
I prefer the le mieux gel tek anatomic girth, is leather so found it helped more with the smell issue in summer (when not...
I feed my 2yr old highland a mix of horsehage timothy/ high fibre (loose). I like that I can find the energy levels as needed.
She is pretty good at regulating, as has been ad lib since arriving. But I always have a low calorie chaff available at all times, so that if she did decide we was...
I have this year purchased a 2 year old from a stud in scotland unseen for transport to east sussex. Due to work and transport issues I didn't view before hand. Deposit paid after pictures/ videos. Payment made once happy with vetting. Transporter happy so long as full payment had been made...
Newish 2 1/2 year old mare, looks like an internal worrier which is being worked on as had a big move and change. Is settling into a winter routine slowly.
Alongside topspec stud balancer, she has the following and will come off when she has settled.
equine america so kalm liquid
Equine america...
Do you guys find stable or turnout hoods help with managing stains/ colour?
I now have a grey highland after a bay which was bliss. Whilst she isn't too bad yet, she is only 2. Want to get a head start if I can, which seems futile when I think about it. Thanks
I'm an odd one who prefers Bedmax. If the bed is deep enough the wet settles at the bottom, leaving the top dry. My shavings bed is always clean and dry but it is a big bed.
I have seen thin beds that go wet and brown very quickly and doesn't suit the very wet horses unless you put something...
