Has anyone had success with Fly Formula by Feedmark, or any other in feed supplement for flies?
The only thing I found on this before was archived in 2011, so..
My mare recently had to get eosinophilic granulomas (proteins lumps) injected, which were thought to be the result of a reaction to fly bites at the end of summer, and I'm hoping to avoid them, and the vet bill this year!

I will also be getting a zebra fly rug, but she's kept in a herd, and I don't think the other horses will be gentle with a rug, so trying to prepare for potential rips etc. 😅
 
We use think fly supplement and black salt.

The combination along with a fly hoodie kept sweet itch horse clear all last year.
He was also groomed daily with CDM fly spray.
 
It doesn't have the intended effect of keeping flies away for my itchy pony. Nor has any other supplement.
But I do use it to help her skin/ guts, seems a little less itchy on it.

Oh interesting, what does black salt do?

I was chatting to the stable owner, and he isn't keen on using a fly rug (he likes that for however many months of reasonable weather we get, the horses get to be horses, which, fair!)
Now obviously I will if it's what works for her, but if I can use effective supplements and fly spray, all the better!

Damn, that's disappointing! Curious about the effect on her skins and potentially coat though! Another issue I have in the summer is her coat seems to crisp up in the sun, and some hairs curl forwards at the end 🤦 Yet to be determined if that's a sun thing, or something else!
 
I've used on 3 horses, one with quite sever reactions to flies. No effect I could see.

Worth thinking what you need. Are you trying to prevent bites, stop them landing on eyes/ears/sheath, stop horse becoming itchy?

My very tasty cob needs barriers in the form of rugs and ointments, and repellents, and herbs/antihistamines to stop skin reactions and itching. In general I'd rather put a rug on during less hot weather than lots of sprays and supplements.
 
In the old days we used to feed horses garlic to reduce the flies nothing fancy. Deosect and Coopers Fly Repellent plus were other stronger long actioning repellents but they have probably been banned by now
 
Deosect still has instructions for making it into a fly spray and is incredibly good value - you need about a tablespoon per litre of water. My mare would always drop and roll when I applied it which was extreme behaviour for her so put me off!

I have tried everything, Tritec 14 and Asorbine Ultra Black genuinely work but they don't have a UK license for animal use so say 'do not apply to horses'. They have license in Germany, America, etc so I am happy to use them. They're in the H&H tried and tested pages too.

I tried it as my thinking was that the yea sacc, mint etc. Might help settle her stomach and lessen her itching. And save buying multiple supplements.

Seems a little less itchy, but might not feed it long term if no improvement seen when her summer coat comes through fully. Skin doesn't look so dry, so might just feed the linseed by itself save some pennies.
