Hi,
As much as I would love to think all the calls you get are genuine, I think sadly there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who may take advantage so it may be a good idea to do some checks.
You could ask to visit their yard or where they would be keeping her and also do an...
Hi there,
I know exactly how you feel so do not think you are alone!! I lost my eventer last year very suddenly and to say I was heartbroken was an understatement. I still miss him every day but I realised that I needed to take all the things he taught me and try and do something with it. I...
Hi there, just saw your post - sorry for delay!
Am getting on much better now, discovered he had a broken wolf tooth so got it removed and the bolting has stopped (thank goodness!). I am working him 5-6 times a week and am now able to jump him which has been good for my confidence. He...
Hi,
Does anyone have any advice on feeding for a horse who is very laid back, not forward off my leg at all? He is a KWPN, 10yrs old and currently on Baileys Lo Cal Balancer and happy hoof with ad lib hay/haylage?
I am not keen on any sort of feeding that might make him fizzy or spooky so...
Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any ideas on effective exercises I could try with my 10yr old warmblood to get him more off my leg? He is sooooo lazy and riding him is knackering me out as I feel that I am having to work so hard to get him going forward?
I am currently trying to keep...
Hi
Sorry I have not heard of the yard you mention but have you looked at Thornhill Livery just outside Stewarton? It is fantastic and worth a look if you have not seen it already? they are on the web if you google thornhill livery?
Best of luck
Katie
Thanks so much for your reply. I am pleased to say that things are much better and I have not had the bolting problem since his tooth was taken out so I am pretty sure this is what the problem was. I am beginning to build my confidence with him again and I am sure we will get there! x
Hi. He is now being lunged or ridden every day, I plan to do eventing /RC stuff but not at the moment as appreciate I would need to get him fitter for that. He is turned out every day so the days he was not ridden, he would be in the field although when he is ridden, he has had turn out also. I...
thanks for your comments, when he runs off, he is doing a fast out of control canter so definitely not a case of me not used to his stride. I probably am more cautious than I used to be so am perhaps holding him back but I promise, when I say lazy, he is very lazy - he doesn't 'ping' off my leg...
hi, just saw the thread about turning him out with cows - he is turned out daily and is next to cows and has apparently been brought in a couple of times because he was so terrified they thought he might jump the fence so not sure if him seeing them all the time is sorting that :)
Thanks for all your replies! I don't think it is my riding only because I have ridden lots of horses throughout my life and this has never happened before. I have also been told I am a very quiet rider with a good position and quiet hands so hopefully this isn't the cause? The 2 horses I came...
Hi everyone,
I lost my eventer last year who I absolutely adored, had him for nearly 7 years and we knew each other inside out. He was an ISH. I recently bought another horse (after a couple of nasty falls trying new horses, both falls happened with bolting horses) and my new horse is a...
Hi. I am considering sending my horse to a professional to school him for me, predominantly in XC and Dressage as he hasn't done this before. He is 10 years old and his background is mainly SJ however he has picked up some bad habits here too so thought if I could get a professional to sit on...
Thanks everyone, appreciate your help and advice.
I am sure I will get through this with him and have a lesson today so will see how he goes. He is not badly behaved as all he does is run, no bucks etc and I'm hoping with the neckstrap that because I am not pulling so much on his mouth, he...
Hi
Thanks for the replies! I did have his back checked and the lady/physio said it was a little sore but nothing awful and he should be okay now. He was in work when I bought him so don't think he was jumping lots but certainly not doing nothing? He was sold to me via a reputable dealer (have...
