I havent been on here in ages, mainly due to kinda losing my mojo a bit after my mare did her second tendon in September. After deciding that at 20 it was time to semi-retire her and a failed attempt at getting her in foal, I decided to begin the hunt for a new horse, and actually stumbled...
I need to decide on feed for my mare for this winter (s. hemisphere here).
I've decided on a good mix for her, but she won't hold her weight on that alone, so I need to decide between the following.
Extruded barley or rice bran pellets
Copra or speedibeet.
She also gets a good chaff...
When horse is in work she's hacked pretty much every day, varying from a 15 minute wander as a cool down in the paddocks to a two hour trot up the beach. So she'd get schooled probably twice a week with a fifteen/twenty minute hack to cool down and then hacked out properly the other four or...
I hate seeing horrid feet. I'll admit, there have been times when I've had to push my mare out to 8 weeks without a trim, but that is due to not being able to get the farrier (none are local). A set of shoes can last all winter if we aren't doing a heap of hacking, but she is trimmed every six...
In about 6 weeks I will need to clip my mare, and I'm stuck for ideas. Was thinking of doing a stifle to wither kind of thing, as I'm not sure how keen she will be on letting us clip her back legs too much. Any one have any interesting variations/photos? She lives out 24/7, and will be coming...
I'm a kiwi! We call them floats here, tried to think of what you guys call them and the best I could come up with was trailer! The thing you stick the horse in that isn't a horse truck
I am currently attempting to find a float/trailer for my mare. She's 16.3hh. What's the minimum height float you would buy? I am looking at one that is 214cm high where her head would be, going down to 204cm at the back. Thanks and gin to anyone who answers :)
So, after a very, very long six months, my mare is due to begin work again following a SDFT injury that resulted in being turned out since 11 October 2016. I was thinking of starting with minimum six weeks of walking, just hacking, building from 10/15 minutes up to a good 2 hours over this...
Thanks Wagtail - yes, I am currently on the opposite of what the horse is, trying to make my bum smaller and hers bigger!! She has a very strong bum, hunter through and through, almost too keen on jumping if you know what I mean. Thank you :).
I shall attempt to join in on this hoping it will work from my phone.
Top pic is Ali probably a month after I bought her, still a little on the lean side but it's the best confo pic I've got. Second pic is taken roughly around the same time, just to show she looks a lot better under saddle...
I think NZ Bloodstock do air transport, not sure fi they are racing exclusive however. I do know that it costs about $30,000NZD to get a horse from here to europe, so I'd say it'd be around that price.
When I viewed my mare, I wasnt told her name until I asked, and then she was promptly renamed on arrival as I was not calling her Alduin... Ali is similar but not as..odd.. Her show name is Aquila, which I chose because its a star constellation and theres some cool greek mythology around it...
