So, after a very, very long six months, my mare is due to begin work again following a SDFT injury that resulted in being turned out since 11 October 2016. I was thinking of starting with minimum six weeks of walking, just hacking, building from 10/15 minutes up to a good 2 hours over this period, the slowly introducing small trots for perhaps another month, again building, and then, all going well, beginning some canter. Obviously I will consult with vet and instructor, but just wanting ideas at this stage. Also will decrease work straight away if the leg shows signs of heat and swelling. Leg is being rescanned 18th April, and aiming to resume work after this. One thing I'm not too sure about, do I work her 6 days a week, or every day? Or less than 6? She's a 16.3 station bred (crossbred), and is older.
