Are your horses still in sweet itch rugs?

Yes...will leave on until November on advice of many different people inc my vet. Pony isn't particularly itchy but don't want to tempt fate :(

You know dressage isn't your "thing" when...

We've had "thank you for not landing on my car" in the judges comments before...when you get comments like that, there's only one way things can go - better! :D

    Type/breed, what do you prefer?

I prefer natives or a nice TBxID type...I am another who isn't keen on coloured cobs. Nor am I a fan of fine TBs or Arabs altough I do appreciate their beauty and their abilities.

"Surviving Wild" - Exmoor pony preservation video

Me too - it's such a wonderful video about a really special breed (ok ok so I may be biased given I am lucky enough to own a few!) and given the work that has gone in to preserving the limited gene pool and bloodlines by the Exmoor pony society I am fiercely proud of both this little breed and...

"Surviving Wild" - Exmoor pony preservation video

Absolutely wonderful that Horse and Hound have shared this video created by the Exmoor Pony Society this summer (as part of the Exmoor Pony Festival) to raise awareness of the endangered Exmoor pony and the dangers facing the free living ponies on the moor due to humans/traffic. The ending...

Dressage - think the judge watched a different test!

I was at an AFFILIATED comp a few years ago with a friend and I was behind the judges car ready to watch my friend do her test. The rider before my friend had a bit of a mess where she lost her way with one of the movements and didn't show it at all. I was absolutely shocked when the judge got...

    Rubber horse shoes

He's got no issues with barefoot - the only ones we have shod at our yard are those who do the most hacking as we have some very stony and sharp tracks (that unfortunately are unavoidable if we want to do anything off road) that even when we did have a previous horse barefoot and in boots for...

    Rubber horse shoes

Mine only slip on very very worn Tarmac surfaces and only if the surface is also very dry and she is due to be shod...I know exactly which routes to avoid if there hasn't been any rain and the farrier is due within a week...and if I do come across a road I am not keen on, I'll dismount until I...

    Rubber horse shoes

I asked my farrier about rubber shoes recently and his view was that they are actually worse for a horse because they don't slip...he explained that over time, the horses legs would be jarred as they went across Tarmac roads etc where the shoe "sticks" to the road causing potential damage to...

    Mature enough to back ?

^^^ this. 4 is the youngest I would consider getting on anything and even then only to do light work for a year or so. Isn't their skeleton still fusing up to the age of 5 1/2 anyway?

How can I lock my Ifor Williams Horse Trailer Ramps?

Take your tack home?? I don't leave any tack at my yard - carrying it back and forth is a small price to pay to know that it's safe at all times!

    Ramiro B

We have a 2yo granddaughter of Ramiro B - her sire is Whitehawk Darcey who is the son of Ramiro B and he is an absolute gent. He runs with a herd of broodmares and is always exceptionally pleased to see people (in the gentlest of ways!) and very happy to stand with you in the field for as long...

    Welsh A/B, Shetland or Miniature?

Have you thought about an Exmoor? There's one (Dunkery Bewick) who was doing fantastically well in a number of driving classes in a showing capacity a few seasons ago and there's a few who do long distance driving/fun "rides" etc. Might be worth a look? They would certainly have the stamina to...
