My mare recently had a nasty abcess which the farrier had to cut away quite a lot of the hoof.
Had been poulticing for 3/4 weeks and was still draining!
Farrier recommended using sugar and iodine mixed into a paste - packed in and bandaged, really worked well and helped to harden the foot...
I have them and love them!
I dont wear mine to the yard because I dont want to trash them.
My mum wears hers to the yard and has ridden in them and said they are ok!
I previously had Dubarrys and didnt like the look of any of the cheaper types.
I have been poulticing my mares abscess with a sugardine (Sugar and iodine) paste and reading up on this people have said it is good for bringing our bruises....
Might be worth a try
My mare went down with (another) abcess 3 weeks ago - vet out as farrier wasnt available straight away and she was on 3 legs.
Poulticed normally for 3 weeks and small amounts of gunk each day - farrier was out yesterday and this is the result. Abscess was tracking under the sole.
He has...
Horses teeth were done yesterday afternoon - no major work.
She has hardly eaten anything since - and she has not really touched her water.
She is a little tucked up and only had 1 poo over night (she has had another this morning before I left)
Obviously if there isnt much going in...
I have had dubarry galways for 4 years and they are still going strong (I ashamed to say I haven't looked after them very well)
I have just got a pair of kanyon ash boots though (I have chunky legs) and I'm really happy with them
- got them for £134 from uttings - really comfy and warm
Has anyone ever used this company? They have some boots I want at a good price but im always careful about places I dont know!

I wouldnt always be surprised if nothing shows on the poultice.....
Mine had one in the summer and was really lame on it - vet came out (didnt do a great deal apart from say what it was!) so poulticed and turned out on his instruction but nothing came out at all.
The farrier was out the...
Evening,
I am planning on getting my mare scanned to see if there is anything going on with her ovearies which is causing some of her issues.
Just wondered if anyone has had this done recently and how much it is likely to cost approx (so its not such a surprise when I ask the vet lol)...
I am using Aubiose and I love it!
I have a wet smelly mare and have been using aubiose for 2 and a half weeks and have only had to put another bale in. I have a fully rubber matted stable and have about a 3rd of this bedded down.
Super easy to muck out (I use rubber gloves and poo pick) -...
Im looking for a cheaper alternative to the woof wear club over reach boots - they are the only boots I have found that dont rub my mare!
She needs some boots for turnout and I would rather not spend £20+ for them to get trashed
Other than that I dont know if its just best to start...
