    Daughter’s first dressage advice

Learn the test (even if having a caller), give herself plenty of time to get ready and warm up, smile when she goes down the centre line and enjoy it.

    Thorowgood Saddle

Just to saya, the TG griffin jumping saddle also has a square cantle. It is adjustable with shims but not a changeable gullet.

    Ideal Saddles M2M

I've had an Impala for 10 years and still love it. Great to hack in as well as jumping. I also have Roella dressage saddle m2m which I'm equally pleased with.

Breeding - I know it’s always a bad idea but...

Yes, the old HIS (Hunter Improvement Society but now called something else as not PC) used TB stallions of good temperament, conformation and who had remained sound during their racing career. They were awarded premiums and were available for use on mares to breed all round performance horses...

    Suspected abandoned pony

(I suggest getting in touch with the BHS Welfare Officer for your area. They will always respond to requests and are very helpful and discrete.

Is this the norm or a bit odd?

Not sure a YO would appreciate being woken at 4am by a livery asking for their horses passport as they were off to a show! Also when I've had to get vet out other than for vaccs I've never been asked for the passport and when one was taken to vet hospital for emergency treatment they certainly...

Should we take responsibility for the horses we take hacking?

Horses should be steady under reasonable conditions whether alone or in company. However, they do need to gain experience on roads to reach this state, hacking out sensibly with a very steady companion. The problem is that out hacking we encounter a lot of unreasonably challenging behaviour by...

    Indestructible rug warranty

Horseware Rambo is probably the toughest rug you will find but they do state that it will give way under pressure for safety (of the horse) reasons. As OP says I would not want to buy one that was really indestructible.

    Hay

We used to buy years supply of hay and straw off field in summer and stored outside with a pallet base and strong tarp cover.

Robinsons, hermes and where to get what I want... RANT

I've just started using Naylors Equestrian and so far service is brilliant. Quick delivery, like second day after order on standard delivery, all items correct, good range of stock and reasonable prices.

    Horses in central London

Before my time but my grandfather kept his driving pony behind his house in Edmonton. I think there are still quite a few little hidden yards tucked away, plus bigger BHS approved riding schools - Hyde Park stables, Ross Nye, Mudchute Equestrian Centre, Wormwood Scrubs Pony CentreVauzhall City...

    Rug reccomendations (sorry)

Your can'[t beat Horseware rugs for value and longevity. As she's still growing I would look at the Amigo range for now. They all take liners so you can increase/decrease the filling. Once she is fully made up the Rambo ones are brilliant. Pricey but well worth it and last for ever.

Ideas of what to do with empty stable yard

What part of the country are you? In the home counties you would no problem letting out the yard.
