Dressage for Dummies - affiliated membership help

Quick Q as I can't seem to find anything on the BD website to suggest either way... Can you qualify for Area's and/or Regionals on 6 monthly trial membership? and do you still get a record like you would as a full year member? Any tips for an eventer turned prancer greatly received!

Dressage - when to move up a level

I have not long stepped my horse up to Novice. He did 4 prelims, all over 66% and won the classes. He is a wobbly 5yo ex racehorse and we have no school at home so do all schooling out hacking so I wasn't intending to move up very quickly. He has since done 2 more Prelims as a warm up to his...

    Riding crops? Your opinions

Agree with this... I'm am also intrigued by the amount of people who have said a tap on the shoulder for misbehaviour. Generalising a little, you would tend to want to ride forward out of any misbehaviour i.e. buck, rear, nap, spook... so why not a smack behind the leg to send the horse on? Just...

ROR, Aintree and Qualifiers ... A little help please!

Thank you, that makes much more sense! Have found a Novice qualifier in March which will be our first show so we'll certainly be eligible then. Fingers crossed we don't disgrace ourselves!

ROR, Aintree and Qualifiers ... A little help please!

Haha yes still clear as mud! Thanks Wimbles, still waiting for this year's schedule in hope of more idea of classes for this year.. He didn't seem to fit in to any of the 'extra' classes. LL, wasn't sure he was good enough for the elite classes.. Maybe the name put me off! The Novice class...

ROR, Aintree and Qualifiers ... A little help please!

I'm hoping to get qualified for ROR Champs at Aintree this year with my 6yo but I'm struggling to get my head round all the qualifications and what's required! Can anyone shed any light? I can see that you can and how to qualify for TARRA classes (limited venues on last years list) but I...

Feeding for weight gain but ulcer prone...

He is fed twice a day, no option to feed more often unfortunately.. he's on private land, not a livery yard and I work full time. I would be really interested in the theory behind feeding oats to ulcer prone horses, even anyone has any relating research? everything I have studied has said no...

Feeding for weight gain but ulcer prone...

Sorry I should have given a bit more info! He lives out 24/7 with constant access to a bale of good hay so the forage is definitely not an issue. We generally have more of an issue with not allowing him to get too hot, he isn't a 'cold' horse by any means. Some good suggestions thank you, my...

Feeding for weight gain but ulcer prone...

Thank you, Topspec Ulsakind seemed to make him worse so we had to stop feeding it unfortunately. Thanks Only_me I was looking at the Saracen feeds as I think they do a few 'low starch' ones for weight gain, might have to make an enquiry :)

Feeding for weight gain but ulcer prone...

Looking to see if I'm missing anything with feeding by orange chap. He is a 6yo 16.2hh TB, typically light in the frame and always seems slightly underweight. Even when he was turned away for a few months on 15 acres of good grass he still didn't get 'fat'. Now by all means I don't want a...

I emailed the Horse registrations address a few weeks ago and put 'Tack ruling' in the subject. Got a response within 2 days :)

Bit help for showing! Hates Pelham

Any sensible judge would actually mark down for the horse being uncomfortable in the mouth. So many times at local level you see horses and riders who have gone out and purchased a Pelham or double just for the occasion but in fact the horse hates it... and sadly more often than not the rider...

    Won't stop growing!

My part bred Selle Francais is currently 15.2hh-ish at 2.5 years. Mum is 15.1hh and Dad 16hh, most of Dad's babies have been tall! All of the measurements (cannon bone, and elbow to fetlock) have her to make 16.2hh so we'll see!! She's been quite evenly growing up and out, looks to make a nice...

horse passport no name BD register have I read this right?

With unnamed racing passports, I have always written the name on myself for the purposes of affiliation BE, BS, BD. Having spoken to Weatherby's and was told it was going to cost over £100 for them to put a name on it, Weatherbys told me it was fine to just write it on. All affiliation societies...
