For college they want me to be riding fit and I don't have a lot of a clue what this actually means. I've been riding for 6 years and have never done any exercise to support this.
How would you deem being riding fit and what would getting there involve? Because currently I am about as...
Riding school horses really know how to get out of doing work, they do the same so much they have grown accustomed to doing it and how to get out of it ;) I have ridden all kinds of riding school horses, some are very sensitive and would have a spook (some quite serious as well!) others I...
I don't want to do anything as I know I have no right to. I was just asking a question about a situation and did it in a very bad way, hence your confusion. Breeding I don't know a lot about, weaning even less. I found the situation strange and wanted to know if anyone knew a possible reason for...
The mare and foal have lived alone and with company. Currently they are living with another who happens to be a gelding and it's taken them a while to adjust. All 3 are owned and the owners have given me permission to feed them and they regularly see me feeding them a few pieces of carrot and...
I've seen horses at the Dunster show in one, tink one may have been in the retrained racehorse class and one in workers. Check up the rules for the show/correct etiquette for the class. If in doubt could take both bits and find out on the day/chose the most suitible.
Is there anyone that you...
A mare and foal that I know and see are still together despite the foal now being 5/6/7 years old. Said not quite such foal still believes that she is a foal and often tries to suckle her mum (who also appears to still be producing milk). The mare seems to always have a pregnant look about her...
I don't think the browband is particularly oversized, it's just designed to hang at and angle more so isn't straight across. My horse has the bridle in full and the browband doesn't hang straight across his forehead, it falls as a curve. It may be because of age (he's had it 4+ years I think)...
He actually isn't spooky in the school unless something out of the ordinary happens (bird flys out suddenly whilst we leg yield or a cardboard box moving in very strong wind are the only real spooks I've had him do). I might try the bending poles/gymkhana games for something different as I quite...
I'm startig to get to the point with my loan horse where I'm really struggling to come up with new and fun exercises for our riding sessions and I can tell he's beginning to get bored out of his mind at being dragged into the same school multiple times a week to just be doing a selection of...
Imo, a double is much better than using a pelham or other leverage type bit as the actual lerveage can in an affect be 'turned off' where as in a pelham using a convertor your always having some use of the leverage part. Personally I wouldn't use one and not every horse will like the double...
In a way you both need to work together to really make a difference and understand each other. Maybe take the jumps down a bit, do some dressage competitions even if they're boring to you to get into an arena with less nerves to get your confidence back up. She's a young so you can't always...
If you're going to be riding him and all you need to make sure that you fit as well. It depends how much you want to spend on a saddle as even if it's just to get him up and running you've got to make sure it fits. Maybe try a treeless to get started or try something along those lines. It...
If you get the bigger ones you should be fine as you won't be forcing the seems and making it uncomfortable for your hands. It also depends on brand and style so it's probably best to try them on in a shop or order from somewhere where returns are free and buy both sizes and send back the ones...
