Hi all! Looking for some advice! Basically I live in the sticks! So saddle fitters aren't easy to come out, but my saddle fitter had already said that until my horse is up and running she can't really fit a saddle as she can't see him move in it! So until then I'm looking for something to get him going in but having a very hard time!!! He is a 15.3 Welsh x Anglo, 16 hands when he has his shoes on, and is CHUNKY!!! So as you can see there he is fairly high withered, not extremely but you know his withers are definitely there! He is also short backed! So a normal 17" thorowgood is too generous and is too long so I'm looking into the 16" T4! I know it's for kids but I'm a small person (slim and only 5'4)
What are your guys experiences and would you say a T4 Pony saddle is worth a shot?

Thanks :3 <3

If you're going to be riding him and all you need to make sure that you fit as well. It depends how much you want to spend on a saddle as even if it's just to get him up and running you've got to make sure it fits. Maybe try a treeless to get started or try something along those lines. It depends how he's going to act when you get on as to which is best for the two of you.

Hi there, he detests treeless saddles! (He's a prissy showjumping horse) as I've tried a tree less a couple times on him! And he's fine to get on you can leave him for months and jump on him and he will walk perfectly (trot and canter takes some work though) so really I'm just looking for a synthetic XXW that'll fit and get us going! But I'm wondering what people think of the T4 saddles!:)

I have a 15 1/2" t4 on my short coupled 13.2, my saddled did flock it a bit to fit. It seems so work ok for small 5'1 adults and my 6 yr old ! It doesn't get used much as daughter not that interested and small enough adults in short supply but seems good. It fits him much better than the wintecs . He is flat backed but has withers. Welsh A x cob.

The T4 pony club have two different lengths flaps. Most I see for sale are the shorter flaps designed for children but you can get the long leg flaps for small adults riding ponies. I'm just 5ft 3 and the short flaps are way to short for me with my boots catching on them so I would go for the long leg version. You can tell them apart with the label underneath the flap showing the seat size for example 16LL.

I had one for my pony, it was a great price, fitted well and looked great however I sent the pony to a small slender adult to school and the saddle threw her backwards and the area either side of the gullet at the back dug in to the pony, it was fine with a shorter child on board but with with a small adult the weight distribution wasn't fantastic, I sold it and bought a leather Native Pony saddle instead which suited both child and adult

I could have just been unlucky
