Hello!
I am 17 years old and have been riding pretty much all my life. I have ridden and owned many horses and evented/competed them at 1m+. I brought on a very very green 5 year old last summer so have some experience bringing on green horses but never anything as young as 3.
I also have a...
I have just bought a 3year old Connemara and was wondering if people have any recommendations of books/videos for bringing on a young horse?
In future I am hoping to event him but would love a book that has some tips, very basic exercises and just general help with a young horse.
P.S We...
I am hoping to collect my new girl this weekend and I am looking for some good exercises that will help with very unbalanced horses.
She is an Irish (unknown breeding) 6 year old who hunted whilst in Ireland and that is all she has done. She is quite short backed and naturally carries her...
I have a thoroughbred mare who can get a bit strong and pushy when being led. She does not do it all the time but I tend to struggle when she does as she will put her head in the air and pull, and she often gets her own way as she is 16.2 and I am only 5'1".
I have heard that rope halters...
Sorry for not being clear, I have a thoroughbred with very very skinny but quite long legs so it is extremely hard to find a pair of boots that fit her nicely so I have found that for flatwork and schooling at home it is easier to use bandages. She tends to bump herself quite bit (not badly)...
I want to buy some LeMieux exercise bandages to match my jumping pads but was wondering what the difference between them is. Which ones need gamgee underneath and which can go directly onto the leg? Which do people prefer?
As I am progressing up the riding levels (starting BE) and therefore jumping bigger and more complicated things I am becoming increasingly aware of the need to buy a pair of proper safety stirrups.
The ones I have researched most are the FreeJump stirrups and I really like the fact that they...
I use him for all 7 of my horses and can not fault him! He has re fitted saddles to our undeveloped youngster and has had some made to measure saddles made for our eventers. He is extremely quick to fix/make saddles and get them delivered back to us.
If you are looking for an amazing quality...
The bandages I use are fleecy with a bit of stretch, quite similar to stable bandages. Is gamgee essential under an exercise bandage? I was told it was not needed unless you are doing a stable bandage. Do you find it better using gamgee underneath? I imagine it gives more protection but can...
I have been taught by someone who has been a head groom at a top level competition yard all her life and she bandaged over the fetlock so that is how she taught me. She checks al my bandages before I ride just o check they are correct. I just wanted to check as I know lots of people don't...
I have seen thousands of pictures of different ways exercise bandages can be done but do not know which is the best way.
Should it cover the fetlock?
This was my first attempt at a proper one and advice and opinions would be brilliant!!
Thanks x
