As I am progressing up the riding levels (starting BE) and therefore jumping bigger and more complicated things I am becoming increasingly aware of the need to buy a pair of proper safety stirrups.

The ones I have researched most are the FreeJump stirrups and I really like the fact that they pop open easily if I happen to fall off.

What other good brands of safety stirrups are there? And does anyone have any good or bad reviews on FreeJumps.

A bump from me too! I currently have a WOW saddle that feels very heavy and so I am looking for some safe light weight alternative stirrups. I believe these stirrups are light weight as well as being safer? At £200 they need to be really worth getting! 😬

Have seen a fair amount of negativity when it comes to Freejumps in recent months.

Granted I'm not eventing in any way, but I'm a traditionalist and only ride in standard irons that fit my boots.

As teapot says there has been quite a bit of poor publicity around freejumps just now. They are popular in SJ but you do see them less at BE. We use Spenger bow balance which comply with BE rules and release the foot from pretty much any angle.

I've got Freejumps and really rate them, but I'm only jumping absolute max 80cm. They are really comfy and grippy, which I like. Many people don't like the grippy feeling, though.

I've also seen some recent bad publicity for Freejumps, the most recent is on HHO front page. This particular incident involves the first model from 2012 under very heavy use.

Mine are newer and used infrequently, so I'm not too concerned. Best to do your research and make your own mind up.

I use non-branded flexi stuirrups for flatwork.

I have freejumps but unfortunately had a terrible accident with them last September. I got my foot caught in the stirrup and got dragged.

I ended up with a severely dislocated ankle and several broken ribs. I have lost all my confidence in riding and I'm serious considering selling my horse.
