It's actually really hard to buy a second hand saddle - the reason being that of course you want to try it.
And who wants to trust an item worth NZ$,000's to the courier, never mind to someone you don't know from Adam, to try on their horse and go for a ride in it.
I have sold a couple of...
I do everything on my own. Show, dressage and endurance ride.
If I'm taking out a young horse for the first time, I'll leave it in the float while I go get back numbers etc, and then hang around to make sure they stay tied up ok.
But once we are past that then - no problem.
The only...
Hi - I don't do a huge amount of road work, but do endurance ride barefoot and don't use boots. I have done up to 160 km rides and had to trim three days later.
I also ride dressage in crusher dust arenas and train a lot on the beach.
Recently spent the weekend trekking in LoR country...
One of my horses is a fidget-gidget and has always been so. The trick is to give her lots of breaks and we also trim her hooves in a different order each time she is done.
Trotting is bigger than galloping here in New Zealand, so standardbreds are very common. Most of us have owned one at one time or another because they are so plentiful and quite cheap. NZ Cup day is the trotting cup and it's our version of the Melbourne Cup!

Well if he is competing at FEI3* or above he will be carrying 75 kg. Anything else will be 70 kg.
I ride at 80 kg (inc saddle, clothes and Christmas dinner) and my 14.2 hh 3/4 Arabian does just fine thank you very much. :)
That all makes me sound like such a swat !
I like to learn tests as soon as I know what I will be doing, so they are well and truly in my head. I will ride them to sort out any bits that aren't going well and practice the individual movements.
All this happens in an open paddock, as I...
I find it really interesting that as a human, I am being encouraged to eat more unprocessed food, whole grains, fresh fruit and veg etc. But as a horse owner I'm being encouraged to feed my horse (and other pets) more processed feed with additives for Africa !
Because I'm a cynic I can only...
