Wash his tail that will be fine if were you are is anything like liverpool at the moment its not actually that cold (10 degress :) ) you could wash his but make sure you dry him properly with a towel leave him standing in the sun and put a rug over him.

my dogs left from 8.40 to 6pm 5 days per week and is fine!! most days I come home at lunch and walk her which she loves!! my sister used to live in a flat with her dog he was hard to toilet train but other than that was fine!! go for it!!
