Who stayed with their horse for PTS by injection?

Hi everyone. I'm actually ok.... I feel like a weight has been lifted. Going to see him was getting hard, because it was horrible knowing he wasn't right. I know I did the right thing because he struggled to walk yesterday. He stood perfectly for the vet (as always). I gave him a few polos...

Who stayed with their horse for PTS by injection?

Thank you so much for all your posts. xxx I have definitely made the right decision. I put him out on the field for his last morning and even on two Bute he was so sore and kept stumbling. It was sad to see because in himself he is so well and looks in great condition. But it did confirm I am...

Who stayed with their horse for PTS by injection?

Oh all you lovely people have made me cry! Your messages are beautifully written, thank you xx I am pleased I am prepared for what could happen, so there shouldn't be any horrible shocks. The YO has said they will be there in case I need them so hopefully they can supervise while he's loaded...

Who stayed with their horse for PTS by injection?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I would regret it if I wasn't there. I have always been the one there for him so it wouldn't be right to leave him at the end. I do like the suggestion though of asking the vet to tell me when he's about to go down so I can look away. I already know I will...

Making the decision to PTS :-(

Hiya, I am currently in a very similar situation, so big hug! My 19 year old (who I've had for 15 years) has kissing spine, bone spavin and navicular. He got lami last month (doesn't have cushings) and it's just another thing for him to deal with. He is also on 2 Bute a day but is still looking...

Who stayed with their horse for PTS by injection?

Hi. I do not want to start the age old debate about which PTS method is best. I have decided on injection and the vet is coming this Thursday. The question I'm asking is, have any of you stayed with your horse while it was PTS by injection? I'd like to be there with my horse but on the...

    Equine Cremation

Thank you all so much for your replies. The x-rays were fine which has left both me and my vet rather surprised. It sounds awful but I was hoping they would be bad so then it would be easier to make a decision about when to say goodbye. It is still very much an option though due to all his...

    Equine Cremation

Hi. I think I have made the decision to have my boy PTS, depending on some X-Ray results tomorrow. Has anyone on here had their horse cremated? If so what kind of price should I be looking at? And what did you do with their ashes? xx

    Trotting using a 'pessoa'. Advice?

I think I'll look into long lining and the Straightness Training. I tried again last night. I had it as loose as it can go. It wasn't jabbing him in the mouth and his head wasn't as high, but it wasn't as low as I've seen on people's YouTube videos.

    Trotting using a 'pessoa'. Advice?

But if my horse has his head in the air then it's going to be too tight..... as soon as he lowers his head even slightly it slackens off. I'll loosen it anyway and see how he goes tonight. Samleigh - Bertie has started lowering his head when I walk him out in hand. I can't recall him doing it...

    Trotting using a 'pessoa'. Advice?

Thank you for your replies... and for not having a go at me :) In walk it is working well. Without the pessoa he walks round with his head in the air and it's hard work keeping him moving. He is now walking head down, ears forward and I don't have to constantly chase him. He would be the same...

    Trotting using a 'pessoa'. Advice?

Hi. I am using a John Whitaker training aid on the suggestion of my vet because my horse has kissing spine. My horse picked up walk really quickly and is walking lovely. After a couple of weeks I tried trot but he hasn't figured out to lower his head yet. How long does it usually take for a...

    Suspensary Damage in 3 legs

Hiya. I'm so sorry to hear about your mare. I don't have any experience of suspensary ligament problems, but I didn't want to read and run. My vet has warned me I may have problems with Bertie's in the future due to his confirmation. I hope speaking to the vet tomorrow goes ok. They should be...

    Swollen sheath and box rest

Bertie's swells when he's not moving round much. His legs also fill. They usually settle down once he's got out for a little walk/turnout.

    Animal Communicator Recommendations?

I'd love to try an AC but I am worried I'd be told something I didn't want to hear. I'd be gutted to learn my horse doesn't like me or something! The logical side of my brain says it's rubbish but then there is the other side that thinks it can be real, after hearing of people's experiences...
