In hand showing a 2 year old

My standardbred has just met a bit and will be going out in a bridle- she’s the same age but 15.1 already and is bold and curious… and she can walk twice as fast as me when she’s powering on 😂😂 I will be using a three way coupling, two to the bit and an extra strap to the noseband that takes...

    Donating horse to science

I knew of one donated to Dick Vet in Edinburgh but he had to be transported there and PTS on site. He had a major tendon issue but was fine to trailer with painkillers on board. Sorry to hear about your news, it’s a crappy disease 😢

    Lovely, thanks all!

    Best headtorch?

Hi all! Looking for a new headtorch, that gives me ideally low-ish level option for seeing where I’m going to and from the field, and a high beam type option for scanning said 7 acres to find a horse in the dark 🤣 Any decent not bank breaking options? Points for rechargeable and not batteries.

    Knowing when it’s time

Mine was happy, but not holding weight and bloods had no answers, there was a distinct probability of EODTH (I think that’s the initials!!) and a few other niggles- including a tendon injury. Either way, I wasn’t happy rugging him right up as he would have needed, causing sores around his bony...

Judges expectations at winter Shetland show

Been there- not with Shetties but with youngstock and native youngstock. All hairy. I’d wash manes and tails and legs in as hot water as I can get my hands on mid winter. Buy a well fitting set of snuggy hoods summer bug bodies- usually on sale about now. Including the Body and head/neck...

All change- baby trotter has arrived

We’ll never know- they said the field was full of everything, colts, stallions, mares, foals and all sizes from pony to 16.3. Poor girl 😢

All change- baby trotter has arrived

Thanks all! I do feel that she landed just when I needed her. She’s very like my homebred- he was 1/4 trotter, just as chill and with a similar ‘it’s all about me’ attitude 😂 This was her advert- I couldn’t not call! https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Beak6csq3/?mibextid=wwXIfr

    Standies?

Lovely boy! I picked up my trotter filly about 5 weeks ago from the RSPCA, not a pacer but every bit as chilled.

All change- baby trotter has arrived

My old pairs pony had his last summer this year- the first that he has had of many where he needed no muzzle, had no lami, and no severe restrictions. Two weeks before he was PTS, an advert popped up on FB from the local RSPCA with something totally different to my plethora of dun ponies, that...

Is this a daft idea for hanging haynets?!

Yes! I used to do a haynet on the wall and Haylage net hanging from the rafters. I miss the rafters! I’m in a barn now so can’t do that any more.

    Rugs for narrow youngster

That’s exactly how he was! He can be a proper ‘little man’ and bustles around telling everyone he’s the boss… she has him in line and behaving impeccably- he’s still not sure how 😂 I’ve bought her Maxima ones- a LW and 100 for the price of a second hand one(!), they are on their way (24 hour...

    Rugs for narrow youngster

I totally agree, and my natives and part breds all have wintered hairy and out before now, but trotters and Standardbreds are notorious for fine coats and she’s already lighter than usual due to a lack of grass here in the north east. She is wolfing down hay in the paddock at the moment, so...

    Rugs for narrow youngster

The new baby pony arrived yesterday, mostly trotter, yearling filly, quite deep, narrow and very bum high. I know I’m looking for a rug with buckles and clips at the front with ample room to grow, just trying to figure which one… she’s changing coat now but I know that Trotters tend to be thin...
