Sedation for Box Rest - Sedalin?

Excellent advice - thank you. I will def try the placebo effect after a few days as sedalin is costing me £14 a tube, but amazingly I'm getting away with using 1ml twice a day! so a tube lasts 5 days. So far so good, but we're only in week 2 of 6!

    Sacroiliac experiences please?

I understand that, thanks for clearing that up. My horse has a joint injury which needs to be stabilised as shown up by the bone scan. I'm not sure however, both for the OP and my own interest how you differentiate between the two without a definite diagnosis? The referral vet at Newmarket...

To take to the vet or not to take to the vet?

Stranger 1612, the HO wanted an honest opinion from other horse owners who understand how expensive vets bills can be, which is why we all tried to give her that. Of course there is always the chance that the outward signs can be caused by something severe, as the HO stated in her earlier post...

    Ataxia - any experience?

MRI is only available by referral to specialist hospital (Liverpool or Newmarket) so this may be an ultrasound scan as scintigraph (bone scan) would also require referral.

To take to the vet or not to take to the vet?

I agree with misst - she needs box rest and box rest means box rest. Not trotting up, tight circles or in hand walking. Box rest and bute. Remember vets aren't mystics! they look for the most likely cause of any lameness, and you have already described these. I doubt nerve blocking and flexion...

To take to the vet or not to take to the vet?

Its not an assumption is a statement. And as its prefixed by Probably means it doesn't come with a guarantee. However, as a windgall appeared and heat and swelling were obvious in the joint there is nothing more a vet can tell you in terms of diagnosis. They cannot tell you how it happened...

To take to the vet or not to take to the vet?

Probably no need for a diagnosis as you already know where the problem is. The hosing may be working, but fundamentally she needs to rest it. Also an anti-inflammatory such as bute will help for 2 weeks. I'm sure your vet will say the same. If she isn't hopping lame, probably better to give her...

Sedation for Box Rest - Sedalin?

Thanks for that both. Do you know how much the ACP tablets are? and how many do they need to have to give the same effect as each ml of the sedalin??

    Lame??

If she feels lame when ridden, she almost definitely is its just that you can't see it when trotting her up. If not swelling, heat or abscess in foot, I would suggest resting her, giving her bute or a no bute substitute for 2 weeks before calling the vet again. Keep her in her box if you can or...

Sedation for Box Rest - Sedalin?

My horse is on box rest for 6-12 weeks for the second time this year. He doesn't cope well after a few days so I have no choice but to use sedation or calmers. As I'm sure most of you know some calmers work with some horses and not with others but Sedalin Gel does work for him even in low doses...

PLEASE HELP! found my pony with no control with her legs

Just wanted to confirm that she was lucky to have you. We lost a 27yr old boy who fell in the field and broke his neck, after 3 weeks of box rest. Sometimes its better they go quickly even though it breaks our hearts. They all run fast again in heaven! Gone but never forgotten.

    Sacroiliac experiences please?

My horse has just returned from Newmarket Equine Hospital having had a bone scan (scintigraph) revealing a 40% uptake in his left SI. The vet there, who we can all assume really knows her stuff has suggested strict box rest and bute for 8 weeks. A programme of inhand walking for 6 weeks...
