Quit kick or water gun that has a good spray reach so that you can do it without them seeing you. Water IME has been the best deterrent. Just be careful they do not throw their head up and hit it the first time. Put a pollguard on if concerned.

    Moving to Ireland

You should definitely consider Wexford and Waterford too. Less expensive, statistically the Sunny South East (Well a little sunnier) and fantastic beaches. Also very accessible. Cork and Kerry are just lovely too especially West Cork/Kerry. The problem is the 'lovelier' the area sometimes the...

Dressage Yards near Dublin in Ireland

I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the upsurge in dressage in Ireland. Especially in the East. New venues are coming online all the time and last show held in Kildare had 150+ entries from Prelim to GP. We are still 10 years behind the UK I would say but it is certainly on the up and...

    Census of opinions please?

Rug changes come from the days when there were 2 types of rug. A Jute canvas for indoor with whitney blankets for extra warmth and a New Zealand for turnout. New Zealands were hardy but my god did they get heavy when wet and prone to leakages. They also where not terribly breathable. So rugs...

Round hay bale nets - opinions?

JFC Haybell: We have 4 of these now and could not recommend them more. They work fantastically well. Very little wastage and hay is protected. http://www.jfc.ie/Haybell.html

What did you feel safe doing horse-wise at 31+ weeks pregnant?

First one was a piece of cake. Rode up to 8 months, did everything imaginable with no problem. 30 weeks right now with 2nd and had to stop riding at about 3 months due to SPD (a complete curse). We had 3 3yr olds to get started. 2 did all the ground work and sent for backing but the last one I...

    Solariums

It is a very good idea to use the patio heaters. MD do you have some type of timer system/token system set up for this?

    Solariums

Thank you very much. The wall mounted patio heaters are a very good idea but was taking the lazy route of Sunswitch as they have token and timer controls. Mil1212 can I ask what size of box you have yours in? The box I want to use is 10 (width)x 12. I am a little worried that it is too large...

    Solariums

Hi There, We are putting in a solarium but I would rather go for wall mounted as opposed to suspended as it will be in an American barn and there really isn't anything to hang it from. Has anyone any experience of the Sunswitch system by any chance...

Time limit to visit horses in DIY livery

So you have never seen a door left unlocked? You have never found a loose horse on the yard in the morning? Tackroom unlocked? You have never seen someone forget to rug a horse? You have never seen anyone knocked unconscious or badly hurt? Tack stolen? Horseboxes stolen? We have a duty of care...

Time limit to visit horses in DIY livery

We only do Full Livery which helps. Opening hours are 7.30am to 9.30pm week days. 7.30am to 7pm weekends. Obvoiusly sensible exceptions apply - shows, training, ill horse etc etc. But WE always close up and do final checks. We try to avoid anyone else being on the yard following final checks...
