'Girthy' and under the weather Mare - WWYD

Little update and thought I'd include the pictures of the ulcer for anyone interested. Vet came on the 10th Dec and took bloods for the following and these are the results - PSSM1 - Negative Cushings(ACTH) - Negative EMS - Vet said the insulin is showing as slightly raised on the blood test...

    Welsh cob legs

Is the horse scratching at all? Could it be worth treated for Lice anyway?

    Removing sarcoid on eye

In the last 10 years I have used Global Herbs' SarcEx previously with a 6 yo who had a sarcoid on her inner thigh, it fell off after 1 tub i think. About 20 years ago I also knew of an older horse, about 14 who had sarcoides over the top of her eye lids, they were successfully treated with the...

This crossed my mind last week so I am quietly transiting away from Alfa-a on to speedy beet as a precaution. However, prior to the symptoms starting at the end of July she actually wasn't fed anything, if she was in hard work she might get a handful of Baileys Sweet Meadow mix before work but...

    Mud fever

Is the vet sure that it's mud fever and not Vasculitis? What your feeding could be triggering it and so it won't heal until the food issue has been resolved. Alfa-a and molasses are known to contribute to a flare up.

    Regumate and breast cancer

If the mare still needs support maybe the Improvac injections could be an alternative, worth asking the vet about.

Ideas welcome before I strangle her! :P

Sorry, it wasn't clear from your original post that it was the same foot each time. Maybe not then.

She could still get them, its relatively in expensive to do a treatment and then rules it out.

My mare removes her front shoes on the fence when she's suffering with Mites, might be worth while to treat her for them and see if that stops the shoe removal

That is good to know, I have also seen people recently using Improvac injections for hormone issues so maybe that is an option too once we've ruled out PSSM, Cushings and Liver issue.

    Auto immune diseases - help

Sounds like it could be Vasculitis, which is an autoimmune disease and related to the liver as spotty_pony2 has mentioned. I would get bloods run.

'Girthy' and under the weather Mare - WWYD

Thank you, she's not suffered from photosensitivity since July/August time and she has had a liver detox back in September I think, this didn't seem to improve any symptoms. There is a thought that if there is a malabsorption issue the liver detox wouldn't have worked though. Vets have...

The hair test won't be comparable to a blood test so I don't have a baseline to go off now. @ester and @fredflop I'm just not sure how a liver issue ties into to the symptoms we have? I'm happy to spend money but it's limited so I'm trying to be logical with it.
