Thankyou so much, someone whos not snobby finally! Sorry was typing fast and made a typo - all the time it happens - will go to my nearest riding school.
Not saying I was the most experienced, always things to learn just don't want 'know it alls' trying to tell me that in doing everything wrong. Last time I let someone do that Lilly ended up being smashed in the head.
Oh MrsJingle, I haven't owned her all her life so don't speak to me about braking in a brood mare. By what you say about not being experienced enough for a brood mare my other mare has had two foals and she's amazing and I broke her myself and she's been winning endurance rides up to 50 miles...
I mean if I re-brake her then to start a fresh and try and get her accepting the bit, not fighting me and behaving as her last owner was v. horrible to her
Okay, my friend feeds her arabs a cup of speedi beet, a handleful or alfalfa and half a cup of pasture mix before a endurance ride. Shes only been doing 10 and 20 miles this year due to her top horse having a tendon problem so i've only seen her feed that before a small race. Hope this helps.
Okay thanks. Yeah I've broken a 14.2hh and 15hh but they were welshies so not as fizzy as my anglo-arab! My instructor said she think she's okay however I had a very bad scare with her this year so she said it might be worth trying some natural horsemanship.
If she grabs the bit then try a snaffle with a roller. They are no harder than snaffles but what is so good about these bits is when she trys to grab the little rollers roll round meaning its impossible for her to grab - but thats not all because she'll be too concentrated on grabbing the bit...
I've had my horse 8 months and shes always been pretty headstrong. She has no breaks, patience, manners or respect to whoever handles or rides her. She had a foal at 3 and broken at 4 then turned away and "broken" again at 6 nearly 7. Shes 8 now and to be honest she isn't very good at anything...
I used to work + show welsh D's so the same rules should apply to C's.
•Leave mane and tail natural.
•Tidy feathers up if necessary but cut no length off.
•One plait down behind the ear is optional.
•Wear tweed jacket if possible but navy/black is allowed.
White halters...
My mare is a 14.3hh Anglo-Arab X and she is very strong. She's in a running martingale, Dutch gag with loops that attach to two holes and a flash and she still doesn't stop. She does eventually stop but when I push her into canter she will either fling her head up or grab the reins by putting...
Could someone please tell me what diagonals are and how to do them? I am very old fasioned when it comes to riding therefore I am not used modern terms. Sorry if I'm coming across inexperienced. And please be gentle with me, new to horse&hound :-)
Thanks everyone for your amazing ideas, I am going to get some crates, tyres and wooden poles and possibly make some wings! Will post photo once all done!
