My mare had an attack of laminitis 3 years ago and not had a relapse since.....touch wood. She doesn't head shake but due to all the rape fields surrounding us she does have a pollen allergy and sneezes a lot.
I moved yards in Jan, the yard I've moved to has individual paddocks all next to each other. My mare adapted straight away, she didn't seem bothered at all.
First I would find out exactly what he weighs, then feed according to weight and how much exercise he does. You can feed as low as 1.5% of his bodyweight, any lower and you will be starving him which is not good. Also weigh & soak all his hay, on doing this you will have to make sure he get his...
I can't use them with my mare because when you tie her up she will quickly pull just to see if its a trigger clip. I use one of these http://www.rideaway.co.uk/equitie-safety-horse-tether
I'm wondering if you have the old one. I bought the first one they brought out and my horse worked out she could eat over the sides. They brought out a second muzzle which is a lot deeper than the first. I bought the deeper one and my horse couldn't cheat anymore.
I have the GG Halter too...
My mare can smell if I put anything in her dinner and refuses to eat it. If I have to give her anything I usually put it in with Fast Fibre and she will eat it.
I've just moved to a new livery yard after being at the same one for 8 years. Best thing I ever did, wish I'd done it sooner.
It's a mall yard, only 12 horses and my horse is so chilled and happy which makes me happy. Loads of hacks without going on the road and 2 and a half miles of gallops.
I'm moving yards in a couple of weeks after being at my current one for 8 years & can't wait. We looked around it last week & it was lovely, hardly any mud, hot wash area, gallops, huge arena and only 12 stables but most importantly the YO said the horse comes first.
