Effect of generator noise on equine hearing

As horses have more sensitive ears than humans, could continued exposure to a generator cause loss of hearing? I'm talking about the jenny running pretty much 24/7 to supply power for a mobile home. Have any studies been done about effects of noise in horses? Am also interested in what effect...

How to find out what temperament a stallion's offspring has?

Am planning to AI my mare this year, not made a final decision on stallion yet but most likely will be one of the German or Dutch ones so will not be able to see the stallion. What is the best way to find out what sort of temperament a stallion passes on, I have tried googling it but all I get...

    How much for broodmare?

Sorry, guys, am trying to figure out whether i should sell my mare or breed from her myself. She's 5 this year and we think she has a problem in her hocks. Just finished a course of physio on her back - that's where we all thought the problem was -but she is still dragging her hind toes so have...

Does anyone feed Spillers competition Slow release energy cubes?

tried it on my warmblood mare and TB, didn't see any difference to Spillers Horse and Pony cubes, so couldn't justify the extra expense.

    Serge lined saddles

have had one for ages, with white serge, never needed to clean it but do use a thin numnah. Can't say it goes lumpy or needs reflocking more often than leather saddles....

    Ideal size of a menage

Big is great if you can afford it but you don't need it. You can jump, lunge, ride youngsters etc perfectly well in a 20x40! If you make it 25m you will have problems riding dressage tests, it distorts the angles, unless you mark out 20m (in which case there is no point having 25m!). As for...

How to find source of problem??

My mare had a fall in the field last year (we think), went slightly lame and started to show a change in temperament, from very laid back to being grumpy most of the time. With lots of visits from vets, chiros and osteos she has been sound for a while now, even though slightly weaker on one...

    Yards stourport on severn

There's a yard about a half a mile further down the Lincomb Lane, Woodmere/Bugle Gate, not sure what it's called now, they used to do DIY and I believe they have a decent surface now. If you're really stuck, pm me, I'm putting one of mine up for sale and am thinking about renting the other...

    Another how much - sorry....

16.2 mare, rising 5, reg AES with good showjumping lines. Good conformation, correct paces, laid back temperament, working at prelim. Not jumped under saddle yet (because I bought her for dressage) but jumps well lose and canter definitely her best pace. Good to hack in company, can be a bit...

    Cyclists - rant!

We get lots of cyclists around here, riding 2 abreast in groups of at least 6 (sometimes up tp 18!!). It's impossible to get past them when you are in a car and it frightens the life out of the horses. They cant hear the bikes behind them and of course the cyclists don't slow down at all!! Does...

    Help with underweight dog

Hi, used to feed my rescue GSD a bit of lard every day (vet suggested this actually). It's pure fat so won't give them extra energy, and he seemed to like it. Put weight on him fairly quickly.

Who has built their own stables/yard?

I checked with local council before I bought my land (was agricultural) to see how they would feel about building stables and a menage. They gave me lots of good advice so had no problems getting planning permission. Hired contractors for all of it which cost a lot more than building ourselves...
