The seedlings start to pop up mid-March. At that point they are curled up and difficult to see and a horse might take a mouthful of grass with a seedling in it. I make sure that my horses graze down the areas in the low risk months where the seeds are likely to fall and therefore the seedlings...
Sorry to hear that. I hate disasters like that. I have been teaching my rising 3 year old some voice commands on the lunge. All was going well until she decided to have a tantrum when I changed the venue from lunging pen to the field. Massive strop throwing all sorts of shapes but I managed to...
I used a zebra print fly rug once. The other horses were terrified of the one wearing it, galloping around and doing "fly pasts". My poor horse couldn't see herself in it, so had no idea why they were reacting to her like this. Not sure what make it was but I gave it away!
Agreed. Weaning a foal is a massive experience for both mare and foal. I sent my mare away for 4 months for weaning and she was still difficult when I brouggt her back. Sore udders are a real possibility and need checking daily. I understand your frustration but would not be taking the mare out.
I also had a pony who was terrified of the lunge whip but ok without. She had definitely been harshly handled at some point. Worth trying without the whip?
It can be a worry though. If the baby horse that you bred and raised with such care turns out to be too small for you to ride or too big for you to handle, that makes things rather sad and difficult. Worrying won't change the young horse's height, but certain decisions need to be made as a...
I have a small warmblood mare. Parents were all 16.2-ish lines (Royaldik/Heraldik/Primitive Proposal). Only one horse in her lineage is under 16hh. She is 14.3!
OMG. Had me in tears. How beautiful to see a horse and rider so much in harmony. As the commentator said at the end, so so inspiring. Lovely to see a happy pairing rather than watching and thinking, poor horse.
Just to say that the mare that I used Cartrophen for was mostly 2/10 lame on right front, 1/10 on the other, but the extent of the lameness did seem to shift from one front to the other at times. She's not ridden, so my bar for soundness is relatively low. She is 100% sound trotting and...
My mare had bilateral navicular syndrome, confirmed by xray. She had weekly injections of cartophen, prescribed by vet and administered by me. I thought it had done nothing, but weeks later noticed she wasn't lame any more. She's been pretty sound except on stones for getting on for a year now...
Although I have done some showing, I've not owned a coloured so can't really help with that side of things. She looks lovely though! I would wear dark trousers for showing as your pony has white legs. It will show her off better. Good luck!
