    Old horse, arthritis, winter experiences?

I'm finding it hard to know when or how to make the decision to PTS, I'm hoping that he lets me know when he's ready. He's currently on horse dose no-bute (he's 14.2/3) and 1.5-2 sachets of bute per day. I'm not entirely happy about him being on so much bute, but the vet assures me that there...

    Old horse, arthritis, winter experiences?

Thanks for all the positive replies. We are on bute and out 24/7 and have the facilities to continue this way through the winter. I was worried I may see a downward spiral as the temperature drops, but the experience here seems to suggest otherwise!

    Old horse, arthritis, winter experiences?

Anyone got one? Are they better or worse in the colder weather?

eBay hassle selling tack!! I am angry..

I don't sell on eBay any more after we had similar problems with a watch sale. The watch was brand new, never worn, buyer got it at auction for a bargain price. When it arrived they said it was filthy dirty, scratched and clearly worn. They refused to either provide photos or return the watch...

Old horses, at what point to PTS?

My daughters old pony is getting on now. He's 28 and at the moment everything is good. He's not holding weight like he used to, but we aren't having too much trouble keeping him covered this winter. His teeth aren't as good as they were, but they aren't yet causing him problems. He's a bit...

Ulcers - the behaviourists "get out of jail and paid" card?

Y&C I don't deny that ulcers are a problem, and some cases quite clearly, yes, need investigating and treating. I however am referring to comparatively (to aggression anyway which is not a natural stance for a horse to take) minor behaviour issues on horses who have already been seen to and...

Ulcers - the behaviourists "get out of jail and paid" card?

I didn't mean to imply that all behaviourists do this. My sincere apologies if it has come across this way, my intention was to make the point that this isn't one person. And yes, every single incidence I know of, bar one, has had a behaviourist trained in the same way. I don't think it's...

Ulcers - the behaviourists "get out of jail and paid" card?

I agree with this fully on most levels. However if you have acknowledged that there is a management/handling error and employed someone to help you resolve it you would hope that they would do this rather than taking advantage of the human condition to prefer it to be a problem other than their...

Ulcers - the behaviourists "get out of jail and paid" card?

Allegedly someone who can come in to help with 'behavioural' problems. Things like barging when lead, not loading, being hard to catch etc. If you compare to the equivalent in the dog world it should be a job training people on how to manage certain behaviours effectively through an...

Ulcers - the behaviourists "get out of jail and paid" card?

We are seeing a theme amongst friends up and down the country. And there are several "equine behaviourists" (mostly all from the same cast) who are involved here, not just one. Typical scenario is this. Owner has a problem, gets vet out, vet says horse is fine and that it's...

    Full loan- major vets bills

I've seen both sides of the coin. I've seen the loaner who cancelled the insurance and handed back a lame horse to an owner with no insurance cover because the loaner had been (allegedly) paying it. When the owner tried to chase the loaner the loaner just stated that she had terminated the...

Riding gone to pot after time off for babies!

I also had this, mixed in with a complete lack of confidence and I never had confidence issues before. You have to take it easy with yourself at the start, I got back on about 2 weeks post birth and by the time my daughter was 6 months old it all started to come back, she was 12 months before I...

    Protexin- A warning

Try some yea-sacc if you can muster up the courage to try her on something else. I do like Protexin and have had success with it but nothing sorts out scouring like a couple of weeks on a double dose of yea-sacc. Make sure you buy it from someone reputable though, Pro Earth on eBay are who I...

    Buying dilemma

If there are other interested parties why doesn't she just sell the horse to one of them and move on? I wouldn't buy a horse who scuffed with his back legs unless I was taking on a 15+ horse for happy hacking only. There are all sorts of things that could be including hocks or SJI. Only...

Why are some people just so horrible?

I almost fell off my chair :D Loving plan C! We have talked about repaying the favour but A is far too nice to actually risk causing an accident, however enjoyable discussing it is proving in the current circumstances! B did try and force her instructor onto A but B's instructor is one of those...
