Hot Horse Shower/Showerking vs. DIY alternative - experiences?

I would dearly love a hot shower for washing off after hunting but cannot afford the £200 price tag of the Showerking model which uses the Eccotemp boiler unit at the moment. Has anyone gone the DIY route with a cheaper alternative? I have looked on E-bay and there is a Bester tankless water...

    Skewbald racehorse

What about Nicola Wilson's Beltane Queen? She's doing pretty well and you can't say that eventing doesn't need physical talent at the top levels.

    Books to have...

I was given "Black Horse Nemo" by Oskar Teichmann for Christmas and that is part hunting and part about WW1 - excellent read, very emotional and made me cry.

    Short coupled versus long coupled

My short coupled ex polo pony is very powerful from behind (guess that is why she was so good at it!), jumps like a Harrier jet and also has a very bouncy trot, but the main problem I have with her is keeping her front shoes on when hunting. Pulls them off for a pastime. In fact pulls them off...

    Best wet feed...

Calm & Condition is a very small pellet and mushes down very quickly when soaked if you need something a bit "more" than Fast Fibre.

Potential sharer and a dreaded weight question...

I have a NF, 14hh, and I weigh just over 10st but have short legs, 5'1". Ride my boy quite happily, he is also ridden by a taller teenager who weighs more than me and he copes with a day's hunting, jumps timber, hedges etc with no problem at all other than trying to avoid overtaking the field...

    Best budget bridle make

Ha ha, I've got a "Triggers broom" bridle, bought a nice Jeffries one, replaced the headpiece with a comfort one as the boy is a bit headshy, ex lge browband so that didn't pinch, new reins as originals got broken, now the cheekpieces have stretched ...

the great escape, just call me S. Mcqueen !!

Ha ha, loved this story. Reminded me of the time I was hunting on Salisbury Plain, rode through a "village" with tanks etc. under camo netting, large chap in front of me calls out " Morning Bloggs" and a "bush" stood up and replied "Morning Sah!"

    hunting without jumping

Have to disagree with pennyturner in that the Tedworth do most definitely jump! However there are some meets (particularly on the Plain) where there may not be any and always someone going around on jumping days so you can take a view and jump or not as you choose.

    Childs skull cap for adult!!!

Yep, my everyday hat is a Champion Junior that was my son's before he gave up, seemed a waste of a perfectly good hat and it fits me. Same standard as adult hats and a large range of sizes with no VAT so a bit of a bargain. Also love the "Thelwell" cartoon inside, makes me smile as I put it on!

    Hunting a cob

Would second speaking to the hunt secretary, most are very helpful. Green tweed would be acceptable with most hunts if you are not hunting regularly and a tweed jacket will be warmer than a lot of black ones. Tweed is worn with a coloured stock, navy or dark green would look good, or if the...

    A true War Horse

Sounds an interesting book but just reading the article made me cry so I don't think I could cope. Will say a prayer for Cupid and her compatriots at the Remembrance Day service tomorrow.

Has anyone buried their horse at home.

Agree with all the above. I have three now across the field and in due course others will join them. Sometimes go for a "chat" with them, don't stop loving them because they've gone. Sorry that you are having to go down this route but it is comforting having them nearby.

PICTURES Looks like I have rescued a horse!

Sorry OP when I re-read your thread I realised that you are probably in Spain so may not be able to get Dermagel etc. Fully endorse manuka honey as an alternative as long as you can keep flying nasties off of it.

PICTURES Looks like I have rescued a horse!

Lucky lucky horse to have found her way to you because she has obviously had a rough time of it and she looks such a sweetheart. As to the wound i would use something like Dermagel which keeps the wound moist and allows the skin matrix to regrow whilst keeping all the nasties at bay. Its...
