    Flat Racing Yearlings

Thanks for your thoughts and comments so far. Just to clarify, neither have been backed, they turn 2yrs old on the 1st August and would be bought to race. The bay is actually the more expensive. It's by Dynasty out of a Badger Land mare (Codex breeding). I like the breeding but wasn't...

    Flat Racing Yearlings

Hi, if anyone has a moment please take a look at these videos and let me know what you think re:conformation etc. Both are TB's bred for flat racing foaled sept/oct 2011 (southern hemisphere!). Keen to buy one of these as he has amazing pedigree but one is a lot more expensive than the other -...

    Ex racers

Aarrgghh...just posted a reply and it seems to have been eaten in cyber-space...so here I go again.... Right, charities such as Moorcroft will be able to help you, they take in horses from training yards and re-school them then re-home them for a donation. They will already have a good idea of...

is this a phase? i need help to get over it!

I don't know your history so just going from the video's, she just looks really green and as though she's trying it on to see what she can get away with. My first impression was to be a bit firmer with her from the outset - it seems as though she gets away with the behavior for a good few...

    People really dont care!

I live outside of the UK and people are like that all the time, cats and dogs just roam around and get run over, people don't even slow down, they beep and if the animal doesn't get outta the way then tough. It's so, so sad. I think Gandhi once said that "you can tell how civilized a country is...

How many horses do you have....and...

I have 10, my husband has one racehorse in training - that brings the total to 11. Except there is also a yearling that is about to go into training that we sort of 'forgot' to tell friends and family about! So 12 if i'm honest - :D

    Cracked lines round hoof wall

Best of luck in solving the problem and hopefully someone else will see these photo's in a minute and have a better idea of what's happening. I think a call to the vet can't hurt, better than lost sleep!

    Cracked lines round hoof wall

Doesn't look like white line disease to me either (but i'm neither a vet or farrier). I'd call the vet to have a look if your farrier doesn't know what to do. if it's still a mystery get another farrier to come and have a look. Treat this as urgent though. don't just leave it to see what...

    Products for healthy feet?

I'd just call either your vet or farrier and see what they recommend as they know exactly what has happened and what infection he has.

    Half halt help!

http://www.artofriding.com/articles/halfhalt.html found this, it seems rather well explained. I was trying to put it in my own words but the trouble with half-halts are that they become second nature when you are practiced at them and they are more about a 'feeling' than most other things we...

My horse scared me on a hack - how would you of handled it?

Oh, just read the ex-racer bit, I have one that 'rocks' when excited (also have 5 that don't so please don't let this be seen as a dig on ex-racers as I adore them) - he's harmless and if I just sit there he eventually stops fannying about. Have you recently got this horse - most are happier...

My horse scared me on a hack - how would you of handled it?

Just don't leave it long before you try again. If possible, tag a very short ride onto the end of your next schooling/jumping session (when she's really tired) and build it from there.

My horse scared me on a hack - how would you of handled it?

I wouldn't let it play on your mind, you did what you thought best at the time and as others say, you both got home safely, so you made the right decisions. Is this a new horse or longstanding and worsening behavior? I would try 3 things: 1) ensure you have someone with you next time...
