Well OH is horsey, so can't hide them, but I think he is worse for collecting than me!! We have 7, but one is out on loan, although may be coming back.
Mine doesnt really mind how many I actually own (although natural wastage has kicked in over the years and I've only got one left ) but after a credit card disaster a couple of years ago I swore to be completely truthful in future.
This lasted right up till I ordered my new Ideal saddle a couple of months ago (which comes next monday ). He knows there is still £500 to pay on it but when he asked how much it was I told him the options were that I lied to him or I just didnt tell him. He chose the second option. I think he thinks the saddle is maybe 6 or 7 hundred quid.
This making me feel so much better - I always halve the price of everything [including horses and saddles] At one point i had a separate 'horse account' with no paper statements
How many Horses do I have? 4. How many ponies? Well that's a different story all together!
I kind of adopt the horses from work. The ponies kinda find their way here by coming up for sale at the most inopertune time with the right bloodlines, right height, right colour, right sex etc... so along with the 4 TB's we have a Fell, a Dartmoor, a Welsh D and *cough*10*cough* shetlands
Oh I also have 2 shetlands out on loan and hopefully they won't be coming home any time soon!!! Can't be dealing with anymore! I need to lose a few but I can't even give them away it seems!
We currently have 3, 1 was given to us and my OH thought she was on loan, we did have 4, when one went back home we promised that we would not go back to 4, however now my mare has retired and I have nothing to ride OH has got so fed up with me he has given in!!!
I own one (Mouse) and loan two (Jazz and Thunder). Both are on long term loan and won't go anywhere unless the owners request them back (unlikely) or my circumstances drastically change. Mousey is staying with me for life - I've had him since he was 6 months and he's 19 and a half now!!
I have had Blue for 16 years - Mum kept telling Dad he was on loan - he finally twigged 10 years later
We got a new one a year ago - when my Dad kindly fed our 3 last weekend after we got stuck somewhere - he phoned to tell us that "there was an extra pony in the field, what should i do?" - then we had to confess we owned her.:S
My mum was telling me all about this 'really cute big scruffy orange baby' she's been patting and feeding 'next to Piper'. It took months before I finally admitted it was my new horse
my three- one of which is 34, so i couldnt possibly part with him, another is fast approaching her twenties so she cant go either and the third is just too content (had a jumbled start to life) to let go!!
then we have our eldest daughter's pony and our youngest has a loan of a pony which is a loan with a view to buy, but OH doesnt know that
apart from thst, i've never really had to tell any fibs- but there's time yet!
this time 2 months ago i had 3 a 21yo who i bought to event at 7yo and evented til18yo he owes me nothing and will have a home forever. I also bought around the same time an 18 month old DW xTB who I still have she is 16 and someone is eventing her for me, she is going nowwhere!!! about the same time I bought a 3yo CBxISH to break and sell and guess what I still have him now 17 and he is going no where. So last month I got on loan a 3yo filly hopefully to event and then I bought a coloured 2yo so I guess I am in it for the long haul
I have none hidden, how pleased with myself am I , I have 10, 5 are mine the rest are for sale although one is staying however I have not told family yet as dad always moans, even though I pay to keep them all.
Also another may stay, and if I won lottery they would all stay, never understand when people say they cannot find nice horses to buy.
I always cry my eyes out when they go but am happy with the homes they go to, love bringing on youngsters always think I move them on to a better home than where they were before me.
Am totally hopeless at selling keep any I have to sell far too long and could happily keep them longer, always keep the bad or naughty ones or special ones hence why the herd is always growing.
I live on my own have a very horsey family so do not have to hide any but can so understand having to, hence why I have been single for 4 yrs and no I am not a mutant. I am so set in my ways and past hiding the animals but can see how you could end up doing so.
I have two and neither are a secret.. though i did try to convince OH that a third would be a good idea after a visit to Grafham stud on Sunday. Needless to say i still only have two
I find it better not to mention actual numbers to the OH or my mother now. He helps me a lot and has noticed the workload go up recently, it must be something to do with tea arriving at 9pm or later !
So, when asked for numbers I simply say I have, - the seriously injured big boy who needs his tiny friend in with him to help him get better, the broody cob due next spring and her yearling, the big yearling, the old mare and the new mare, puchased to get my confidence back and for sale to anyone who wants to pay plenty for her, but crucial for me to start riding again, so can't be sold for a little while.
So, "I have one or 2 about at the moment" perfectly simple with no numbers mentioned.
13..... Some of them are mini shetlands if they still count. Had 3 foals this year, one is sold and the other two are officially for sale but i have a feeling they might be staying
I had 3......which includes 22yr old 10hh pony who I like to discount by way of having owned him for the past 19 years and he's so diddy , a WB I bought as a project horse (because I felt sorry) and my ISH mare then that rose to 4 after I bought a Dales youngster when my mare got stress lami and I knew she wouldn't be ridden again....then that reduced to 3 again after I sadly lost her, but now I have 4 again as my daughter's pony is hiome following a tendon op and for good I am told So at least I have something to ride.
I have 10, my husband has one racehorse in training - that brings the total to 11. Except there is also a yearling that is about to go into training that we sort of 'forgot' to tell friends and family about! So 12 if i'm honest -
I have three, my other half who lives in Scotland has 12 (I'm trying to get him to sell a couple as he's not doing much with them at the moment). He decided to drop the bombshell this weekend when we were together that he's tried to buy another one but (fortunately) the current owner isn't sure what they want to do with her!
I have had as many as 9 and that proved to be too much for me personally. I now have my daughters cob, two young irish draughts who are lifetime horses for me, a part bred highland youngster who is for sale when the right home comes up and two small shetlands. so plenty to keep me happy!!!!!
Ok, so i have 3 that my dad thinks i own and two 'on loan'
my OH at the time thought i owned 4 and have one 'on loan'
My mother and myself own all 5 of them
Dad complains about money so its easier to not say anything to him and hes so non-horsey that generally he only pipes up once every few months.
OH complained how expensive my new 'loan' horse was and how i should have just kept my other one instead of sharing him out.
I need to start cutting down, two can go on loan easily its just advertising and finding someone.
