how far do you travel to your livery yard?

3 miles, in good weather & when I don't meet any cyclists it takes about 5 minutes. Winter is a different story & when the roads are bad the 3 miles can take 20 minutes providing I don't get stuck on the hills! Perhaps I should invest in a 4wd!

    Pulled mane or not?

It's unregistered classes, and only local. I've just found out his sire is registered (Merribridge bright boy) but dam (who is Dartmoor) isn't registered, so he is Dartmoor but is only classed as part bred (If that makes sense!) I'm not sure if he's registered part bred, I can't be 100% sure as...

    Pulled mane or not?

When entering unregistered M&M classes & similar, does the mane need to be pulled? We've got a part bred Dartmoor & at the moment he's got lovely flowing locks! He's in his 1st proper M&M class on Sunday & I'm not sure what sort of length his mane should be? I've asked on numerous forums before...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Thanks Crackerz, I am just going to keep to the local shows, I know if I take him to anything other than the locals I'd have issues! A lady did come & chat to me at the show, she kept walking around the horsebox & chatting to pony, it turns out she has bred show Dartmoors for years, she did...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

I didn't know about attaching the lead rein to the noseband until I was told here, but I realized after I read up on it that it was the correct way, which makes sense as it shows the rider has the control as opposed to me! I was thinking about may be doing a couple of in hand classes, just to...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Well our first show was a bit of an experience! I left ponios bridle at home so had to cobble one together from the TBs exercise bridles that were in the horse box, he didn't look to bad though! The lead rein class was a nightmare, the show ring was right next to the jumping, so ours wasn't...

    Derby House. Very impressed!

I ordered 6 of them at the start of the year, all great quality & a surprisingly good fit, especially for a tall narrow TB & small squat Dartmoor, I've just got them back after a good clean & they are like new. After I ordered them I started hearing horror stories about DH, but they came within...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

The jockey has a huge smile, but that's normally when she's careering out of control over the field, believing she's AP McCoy.

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Thank you, I was starting to think that maybe it was HOYS I was entering and not a local show! I've just got to get there now, with my driving and sense of direction, we'll probably end up missing the class anyway! And then there is always the possibility than our wonderfully sane pony goes...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Great, I'm going to leave him unplaited, although I think he'd look a beaut plaited, but I don't fancy trying it with his mane. I'll have to try & have a sort through to see if I've got anything more suitable to wear. And I have been told about the lead rein, but had totally forgot. Jockey...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Thanks for your reply. When I say Dartmoor, he's actually part bred, according to his passport, I've been told that when they come directly from the Moor, they can't be classed as purebred because of unknown breeding. It's supposed to be a 'Fun' show, which is why I thought it would be a good...

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Forgot to mention, pony in question is a Dartmoor & at the moment, he's got a fairly long, but tidy mane!

First show - Lead rein pony classes

Hi all, I'm just after a bit of advice about lead rein classes. It's my daughter & pony's first show on Sunday, they are both 5, so not sure how it's going to go! I want to take them in the best lead rein pony, but am not sure what to expect. I haven't been to a show for well over 20 yrs &...

    Bandage for turnout?

Thanks, I'm thinking it best just to turn him out with nothing & keep my fingers crossed that he won't go mad when he finally get's back out!

    Bandage for turnout?

Thanks. I've managed to persuade the YO to let me use a small dry paddock for him, so unless we have more torrential rain the mud shouldn't be an issue. I think he may have just slipped on the mud surrounding the gate and pulled or twisted something, he's got over it considerably quickly, I just...
