Long time since I’ve been there , for May show GSD rings were outside but yes I recall the halls were a bit grim . My lasting memory of SKC is that it was the show where parvo first appeared in the Uk . We had 2 dogs who became ill and a litter of pups who were very sick but amazingly survived .

With a 7 year old I would definitely have bloods and fluids. Pre op bloods picked up kidney issues with my old dog and probably gave us an extra couple of years with him.
If you’re already seeing a physio what are their thoughts on the lameness ? My lad has regular physio after surgery as a pup which includes exercises which are designed to help strengthen his weaknesses in construction which I suppose includes posture .
We had a stud dog who was used quite a bit and he was never an issue . He only bothered when a female was at their height , ignored them in the early days . I think sometimes if a dog only has one stud it can leave them a bit more obsessed but not always .
