Another fatal dog attack

Oh goodie 'the problem is the other end of the lead' says a dog trainer I've never heard of, completely negating the genetic elements which sees perfectly nice dog owners, passers-by and children receive grievously injury and worse.
Yes they genetic bit where XLs suddenly flip was ignored when I think it's the main point really.
Wonder how much that expert was paid btw.

I found the images of the kennels in the Panarama program quite harrowing. It's disgusting that dogs can be kenneled for such long amounts of time while the backlogged court system grinds along. If an XL is caught straying it should be PTS immediatley - the owner has allowed that to happen, regardless of whether a door or gate was left open, if you have a banned breed you have to be super vilgalent.

Some of those dogs were stressed beyond belief and the risk to staff is huge. This really needs to stop, regardless of breed this isn't humane at all and a needle on day one of capture would be far kinder.

I imagine shooting a dog inside a concrete kennel would be a bit of an H&S risk!!

The 'suddenly flipping' is just one element, their size and strength and tenacity is also a worry. There are plenty of large breed dogs who don't have that 'unstoppable' element bred into them, but have enough drive to be useful in other disciplines, or a complete lack of any oomph at all which means they are safe as a family pet.

I imagine he didn't get paid that much to be fair, if at all.

Good to see this delightful character has been found guilty, albeit only of "owning a dog that caused injury while dangerously out of control".

It'll be interesting to see what the sentence is.

This makes me feel physically sick - what terror and agony that poor elderly man must have felt 😱

Saw that post linked on facebook, the comments were the usual 'it's the owner not the breed!' and 'what about that jack russel that killed a baby?' drivvel.
If I could be arsed to engage with them, I'd be trotting this little list out and asking them if they notice anything, particularly from 2020 onwards...

Almost as if people involved in nefarious industries had to pivot to a new way to make money, for some strange, unspecified reason, six years ago.

Of course, he had a wonderful, soft, cuddly temperament and was great with the kids.

And used as a stud dog too.

Especially since people have been attacked and in a few terrible cases lost their lives because owners have let them escape. It is completely unacceptable that that can happen to innocent people.
They clearly cannot keep the public safe with their carelessness so they shouldn’t be allowed a dangerous animal.

Poor little girl. It’s tragic that the whole country is now waiting to hear what the breed is and whether the child was attacked by her own family dog or someone else’s out of control dog.

You only have to read the Fail’s comments to see that anger against all dog owners and dogs in general is growing. From calls to have all dogs on leads and muzzled to banning anything over terrier size. And when joe public starts demanding a solution, mr govt will provide one. Not one that will help but it’s nailed on to be something the law abiding will follow, that the dregs will not, that will not reduce attacks, but which can be TAXED or FINED.

The Fail’s top comments include ‘…aaaaaand it’s an XL bully’ (paraphrased). Speaking non emotionally as a large breed owner, if it is, the solution will likely to be to look at banning that breed which I would prefer to having to muzzle my well behaved large breed dogs or pay a licence fee that I know won’t be paid by the people causing the problem.
True. Im personally in favour of licencing but like you say, those who should wont. Just like those who dont chip dogs or horses or geld colts.

How do we know that the dog in question came from a rescue centre? I trawl daily through dog adverts on Preloved, Gumtree, Pets4Homes and Freeads and the amount of large, young dogs up for reselling at cheap prices is alarming, these are mostly bull or guarding breeds and their crosses. This would be an easy route to go down, no questions asked and just hand over a few quid or equivalent and Bob' s your uncle.

I really cannot believe a rescue centre would rehome a dog of this type to a family with children, particularly in the light of events in the last couple of years. And if it did come from a rescue centre, I wonder at the home check having seen an ariel photo of the garden published by one of the dailys.
If they did they need closing down

Two small dogs attacked an elderly lady in an alleyway behind her house two days ago, the injuries to her legs are quite dreadful…
Not her dogs…she tried to get away by going behind bins, but they still attacked her…A neighbour heard her screaming and was able to beat them off her with a yard brush, which broke, but they then ran away, he was bitten as well…
Both dogs pts….
So as every sensible dog owner on here well knows, any dog whatever size, breed or shape, can and will attack if not properly treated and trained….
My heart goes out to the baby in Redcar…

An interesting read, that Wikipedia link. I suppose the other thing to take from it is that if you get nipped or bitten by a dog, even if it's accidental and entirely non-malicious, you should see a doctor! (who may help you or may diagnose you with food poisoning  )

In my little corner of the world, these sorts of attacks are more likely to happen near the housing projects. Are the areas of these attacks similar?
