Me too - it's disgusting. If it's sound enough and you really can't keep an old horse or pony, then loan it out to a well-vetted home. Breeding bitches etc. chucked out when they've produced the number of litters allowed by the Kennel Club, is as low as you can get. Exploitation!
Have a look at the stolen horse register, quite a lot are cobs and coloured. And, regardless of opinions of type, colour and value - she WILL be freeze-marked.
Talking to a riding companion the other day, who owns a coloured cob, has made me start thinking about having my mare branded, as hers is, on one of her dark patches as a visual deterrent. I do worry about her being stolen, and although nothing is foolproof, I feel that it would at least make...
I have a bunion (being operated on later this year), and because of it my foot is out of balance. Even standing I am aware that more weight goes into my other foot, and when I ride I know the same is happening. Don't want to cause my mare back problems, and wondered if these stirrups might help...
The cost of having a horse/pony pts should be made more affordable, as should gelding a colt - the cost of having a small pony gelded far exceeds it's sale value, hence so many colts and consequently so many badly bred foals.
Agree totally -too much breeding - horses and dogs too. Also - how about minimum value when auctioned - could stop the "isn't it cute" buyers hopefully.
I have been using pig oil - perhaps not enough? She does have a lot of silky feather and I have avoided washing the mud off to avoid mud fever. I do also have some reservations about mud socks though.
I should have said - mud socks. No problem, but would just like to be able to get her in from the field to ride without her feathers being caked in mud. She is not living in a mud patch, has 3 acres to roam in, but it is clay, and it just keeps raining!
Can anyone recommend a brand for me? She's only 14h but has 10" of bone, so anything that goes round seems only suitable for something of about 16h. and so far too long for her.
