Cotswold RDA as dressage venue - reviews?

I took mine there when she was a youngster and she rooted to the spot in the indoor and refused to move in any direction whatsoever, so my mare thought it was life threatening spooky! Yes she's a spooky mare anyway, but she found it all too much and we had to retire, as our 4 minutes had come...

Getting rid of buttercups for good

My field is also covered in buttercups, but it makes no difference whether the fields have been grazed or not, the one's that don't have horses in have just as much yellow in as those that have been grazed. I have also limed in the past and that didn't make any difference either. I am now...

Calm and Condition vs Conditioning cubes?

Calm & Condition, has a big % of sugarbeet in it which wasn't what I wanted for mine, I wanted her to have a higher % of her energy levels coming from a slow release energy sourse, I swapped her on to D&H Build up cubes which she gets on with really well and has been on ever since. Provides her...

    Muzzle padding...what do you use?

My pony had the Shires muzzle and had to have it on tight to keep it on him. I padded it with gamgee, which I then taped over the top with electrical insulation tape (the stuff used to re-seal cables) to make it smooth and keep the rain off it. Worked really well for him, as he had it soft...

How to remain calm when competing

Try to focus more on actually riding and less on the fact that it's a test. So use the thought process you use at home when you're riding a centre line, "I want it to be straight, forward and relaxed" repeat the same words to yourself in the test that you use as you're riding through it at...

How much do you do with your 3 yr olds?

Mine will be 3 next week and has been with me less than a month. She has been learning to lead politely, have rugs on, tie up, be groomed and load nicely on and off the lorry and has also started some short trips out travelling on her own. She is off to the vets this week to have her wolf...

    napping youngster :( time spent

I used to just get off mine, after trying all the other techniques that lots of people had told me to try. I never found the sitting her out thing to be of any benefit whatsoever. If she found something super scarey it was scarey all day, until someone showed her that it wasn't and I found it...

Full time job, Competition Horses & Social Life?

Full time job, competition horses and a Social Life Does anyone manage to succeed at all 3 of these?! I can fit in the first two, but the Social side of things, seems to be very much the poor relation. By the time I've sorted the horses out (all on DIY) I'm done in! How about you?

Rotten Lorry Floor - how often to check / replace

For those with lorries, how many people have had to change a lorry floor due to it going rotten? I had my previous lorry 10 years and regularly checked the floor and it was always super strong, but was made out of some pretty chunky timber. New lorry, built 7 years ago, has just gone off...

Contact details from the Futurity Catalogue?

Thanks both. No there's no stud prefix only the filly's name, I think she's probably a private breeder? It does have "for sale" in the catalogue of entries, so I think I'll ask BEF if they can provide an email address, or forward mine on if they don't want to give hers out.

Contact details from the Futurity Catalogue?

Is there a way of obtaining an Owner's contact details from the Futurity catalogue? I have seen a filly that I wish to make further enquiries about, but there is no website link and a quick facebook / google search isn't bringing up anything either. If I contact BEF would they provide an email...

Advice on horse with Parrot mouth

Mine has a parrot mouth and can be very sensitive in her mouth. After trying various different bits, she's happiest in a simple loose ring, single jointed snaffle and a drop noseband. Less is definitely more as far as bits and her mouth is concerned

    Horse with parrot mouth

I have a dressage horse with a parrot mouth and with routine regular rasping, to keep everything well maintained she has no problems with it whatsoever. I bought her as a 3yo so have always made sure it never gets neglected, which I think is the key to it really, if you leave the teeth to grow...
