    against?

tallyho!, I really enjoy your humor. I told myself I was going to stay out of this but........I obviously was wrong On a serious note, as someone who has gently trained my share of horses, before all the gurus were on Television. If you want to play ground games with your horse for the rest...

    Red Cell / iron aid

We used Red Cell temporarily on the advise of a Veterinarian a couple years ago when a horse was recovering from an illness and blood work showed she was anemic. I wouldn't use it all the time unless there is a need as too much iron can cause problems.

What does 'sharp' mean to you?

It's a term usually used in the U.S. for a fairly small group of horses. It's use is explained well here. http://daughterofthewind.org/sharps/

What does 'sharp' mean to you?

As everyone else mentioned it can mean many things depending on who's saying it. I just thought I'd point out though, an Arabian advertised as a "sharp" means no Blunt (as in Crabbet) in the pedigree.

    Kyra's Western Saddle (video)

Just a few points here. The saddle in the photos appears to be a little far forward and looks to be interfering with her shoulder movement. This should also take care of some of the sloppiness (bouncing). I very seldom use a back cinch, only when doing certain types of riding otherwise I...

Please tell me why the obsession with barefoot?

Well maybe an obsession. From a breeders standpoint, I am trying to breed the soundest feet and legs possible. Non of mine wear shoes and are in varying amount of work. My farrier tells me my horses hooves are hard on his tools because they are good hooves. If I breed good straight legs with...

    Total Love

This topic just reminded me of this poem. You probably have seen it many times before, but......... When I am an old Horsewoman: I shall wear turquoise and diamonds, And a straw hat that doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my social security on white wine and carrots, And sit in my alley-way...

    Backing a problem mare

You've gotten some good advice. I just wanted to tell you a story to maybe offer a little encouragement. Keep in mind I've been starting horses for quite a few years so the situation is a little different. We bought (very cheaply) a mare that had been to a couple trainers and they couldn't...

    Backing age query

I've started a quite a few horses of all ages and it's my opinion that it depends on the horse and trainer as to how difficult it will be and the end result. For example, our most kid safe mount, the one you can set a beginner on using a stable halter as a bridle and give voice commands from...

Idiot other half and feel like giving up :(

I know my OH always blames someone/something else, except the time we were working in the arena (outside) with a very green horse (second ride). My OH decided to weld something about 20 feet outside the arena! No amount of desensitizing gets your horse ready for that. It was a ride I won't...

Stupid question, but can garlic contribute to laminitis?

I agree. I know many people who feed garlic to their horses for a number of reasons, but I really don't know if the benefits outweigh the risks. http://www.equisearch.com/horses_care/nutrition/feeds/eqgarlic528/

Do horses remember their old owners do we think???

Mine definitely recognize people they like from years ago. I've also witnessed they remember people they don't like.

Quality testing for hay and haylage.

I used to work as a Lab Tech in R&D for a major feed company. We usually requested the sample to be taken from the middle of the bale as stated above and from multiple bales if possible.
