    Saracen recovery mash

I can answer this with some experience as I have used many 20kg bags of this whilst on the Endurance circuit. It is somewhat designed to be a very wet feed (as Endurance riders know, horses will often refuse water but will usually happily drink mash soup). Its primary purpose is for getting...

Some photos of what you have and how its set up might be useful, Ortis units are usually only sold in the US?

    Grass livery... South Nottingham

Also Notts area - locally to me grass livery on a DIY basis (owner responsible for twice daily checks etc), water on site but no power - is generally £45-50 per week.

    Sidebone

Yes..... another 'heavy horse' here. Diagnosed at 5 (ish). Had a few moments of being 'off' over the years. No jumping, avoid excessive road work. Has been sound in pads and packing for many years - done two Endurance seasons and a Man V Horse - OK'd by vet as straight lines on grass is better...

    An endurance horse?

Those that know me... know I could do 'chapter and verse' on this topic. You DON'T need an Arab. I'm not saying you can't get one but for Endurance, you don't need one. Any fit, sound horse can do it. Note, a bit ike Pony Club ponies, the good endurance horses change hands on the circuit and are...

    Adult beginner- Volunteer

One thing that maybe of interest is to seek out your local Endurance GB Group (either Lancs/Cheshire or West Riding), they often hold interesting non-ridden social events and once the season is underway are always glad of volunteers to help at venues and on ride days, where you may learn lots of...

    Camp - stupid questions 😑

From a seasoned trailer camper of multiple weekends from March to October.... if you can beg or borrow a folding camp bed (one where the legs lift the sleeping part off the floor), you will be significantly warmer! Otherwise, decent pyjamas, sleeping bags, duvets etc and a warm hat will all...

    Quickest cooler rugs?

Competing Endurance on a horse approaching 700KG who runs HOT (heaviest rug I own is a 40G and he lives out 24/7*365) is challenging - often use 150 litres of water for cooling before re-vetting at ride end!

    Quickest cooler rugs?

In my experience as an Endurance rider, the shorter the coat, the quicker the horse dries. Hence why we repeatedly full clip all year. I have various coolers and wicking rugs and find they all have their uses. A sweaty, wet, long coated horse does take several hours to dry unfortunately.

What do you think of when you think of 'Endurance' riding?

A really well balanced view point there! I have also had 'non Endurance' friends lecture me about how I'll 'ruin a good horse' etc, etc - however they went very quiet when I pulled out my ride record file and pointed out said horse had been independently assessed on gait, metabolics, checked...

What do you think of when you think of 'Endurance' riding?

To both of you - and anyone else interested but not knowing where to start, feel free to drop me a PM and I can help steer you in the direction of your regional 'group co-ordinator(s)' who can give you a good idea of whats going on both in your and neighboring areas. Its pretty much the end of...

What do you think of when you think of 'Endurance' riding?

I had to check the handbook but for a 'Novice' 32KM competitive ride you would be classed as 'completed' if you finished at an average speed of 8kmph - so four hours maximum at 5 miles an hour in old measurements. On a reasonably fit horse, steady trot periods with some walk breaks and you'd be...

What do you think of when you think of 'Endurance' riding?

There are many that ride and compete barefoot - the rider that did 80KM competitive at Well Vale was fully barefoot and I know of others that only use boots for certain rides. I am also picky about the amount of roadwork on rides, so won't enter a ride if there's a lot of trotting on road and...
