hi we have a pony with ems (ir) he is on metformin and his insulin levels are now normal, he is not overweirght and is ridden or lunged every day. However even after only two hours out with a grazing muzzle he gets a pulse in both front feet. We are now at our wits end as to what to do. waiting...
It isn't just grass. My pony is Insulin resistant and got Laminitus on Hay and high sugar chaff. He is now taking Metformin and is out with a grazing muzzle. (he gets a fair bith through it). His first IR test showed 900, it should be 85. It is now 400 and we have increased the metformin.

Just had a re test for the insuling resistance. Last results were 900 (should be 85) now 400. Have increased the meforming to 6 tablets twice per day. was on 4 twice per day. At least it is going down.:)
Yes soaking hay for 30 mins. We feed the lowest sugar feed available which is a chaff with a few little nuts. its Dengie hi fi mollases free and is only 2% sugar. We feed this mainly to put his vits and tablets in.

Thanks guys. Either way, I am of the opinion that the muscle prob is linked too the laminitus. Unfortunatly my vet won't have it which means I have two claims going on and so two £150 excess's to pay.

Has anyone ever had this issue. My pony is insulin resistant and is taking Metformin. Seems to be doing ok. However during the laminitus bouts he has had v bad muscle spasms. Physio thinks to do with the toxins from the laminitus. Vet says no way, but cannot come up with a reason for spasms...
