    How are your Thoroughbreds bred?

Back in '05 I bought a 3yr old TB gelding. When I collected him his PP was missing and when it turned up was defaced! When I eventually got his "real" PP I was shocked to find that he was very well bred and his Grand sire was Sadler's Wells and his Gt G sire was El Gran Senor. He was a shocking...

Daft things told when viewing a horse..................

A few years ago I went to view a grey arab gelding which had an asking price of 3.5K. The pics in the ad looked great and he seemed to tick the boxes. Thankfully I didn't have to travel too far! When we arrived at said "allotment" in the middle od a council estate we found the horse in a...

How to wash a sheepskin numnah

I wash mine on a 30 degree cycle with liquid for washing wool, silk and delicates and then use fabric conditioner. They always come up well.

Red flags/ Questions to ask when viewing livery yards

I would also want to know more about the turnout; where is it, how many are turned out together, are they single paddocks, poo picking, water source, ragwort etc? Also I'd want to know who is going to handle the horse and are they big enough, strong enough? Bedding wouldn't worry me too much...

    confidence needed

Hi, I keep my horses on a livery yard in Sheffield that is also a riding school. They do private lessons during the week and they have some nice confidence giving horses. PM me for details if you like.

    transporters

I used Parkers to bring my horse from Spain to UK; competitive, price and my horse arrived happy and well. They do regular trips to Portugal, Spain and France.

    RSPCA and the Prince affair

I don't have much time for the RSPCA for a number of reasons but I personally would not be rude to any charity collector. I was however subjected to verbal abuse when I politely told a "door knocker" that I gave regularly to certain charities and I was unable to commit to any more. I also...

Neglect and welfare concerns - Not sure what to do ?

I would contact World Horse Welfare; they will actually go and investigate while the RSPCA sit on their backsides wondering which old lady with a mangy cat to sue next!

Transport from Leeds to Goole 02.11.13

I've used Frances twice to move my boys and she was very competetively priced, was very patient with my bad to load arab, arrived on time and drove her lovely box really considerately. She certainly gets my recommendation.

Potential soon-new owner - cost and advice?

There are some very comprehensive replies here. I think it will vary dramatically where you are in the country, what type of livery you require, how good the hay harvest has been etc etc. I have 2 horses which are both 15hh, I keep them on full livery in South Yorkshire. I pay out in the...

Best stuff for barrier against wet and mud to prevent mudfever?

I have had problems with mud fever in the past but not anymore. Is your horse stabled at night / day routinely? I use a barrier cream /oil (just got some pig oil but have used the NAF cream), I NEVER wash the legs, just rub down and then my boys wear Thermatex leg wraps over night. The wraps...

    McTimothy Chiro, Derbyshire

I use Jill Firth and I'm sure she covers C'field; I think she's from Buxton way. Always been happy with her.

Best place to go for rider insuarnce

BHS Gold membership does have great insurance included, I think this cost between £50 - 60 as an adult per year. Alternatively I would go to recommended horse insurance broker; I use an excellent broker for all my horse insurance.

Proud Flesh After Small Cut and Whole Lower Leg Irritated

My horse sustained a kick to his hind cannon bone recently. This was a deep wound, much deeper than originally thought. My vet was instantly worried of the wound over granulating so he was kept on box rest (the more friction over the wound the more likely it is to get over growth of tissue)...
