RSPCA and the Prince affair

I've just had somebody from the RSPCA ring me to try and get a donation of between £8 to £12 a month. The call was being recorded, so I had a right go about them not doing anything to help Prince and then giving Jess all that hassle. There was also the issue of them wasting millions on anti hunting campaigns instead of seeing to the animals who really needed help. By the time I'd finished, I bet he wished he hadn't called!!

Ive had them collecting down my lane where I live on a small holding, they must have thought " we are in here as she clearly loves animals" until I gave them a piece of my mind about what I thought of them.
They then answered me back by saying " well that is why we need your money, so we can make things better"
GGGGGGRRRRRR.
 
RSPCA collectors are strange - the first thing one asked when my Mum opened the door was "do your dogs bite?" For a start they were shut in the sitting room so couldn't get at the person, secondly No - they don't!!! Luckily for the person, it was my Mum at the door if it was me - they would be getting an earbashing.
 
A few months ago they called in here, and my dog wandered out and was promptly sick at their feet - that's what she thought of that obviously!!

Who are you people?! Charity collectors and the RSPCA ones are only volunteers. Selflessly giving up their time to get verbally abused. Charming people.
Also....there are always two sides to every story guys....
 
Are you guys sure that it isn't just some random call centre or collector holding the contract for the RSPCA? It is possible that the people calling/knocking on doors are just doing a rather low paid, and soul destroying job, and reading from a set script, iyswim...they may not even be connected directly to the RSPCA!

Just a thought.

A lot of people on here are very rude about the rspca as one of their volunteers it makes me sad. That said the majority of the phone and door to door collectors are paid staff, usually employed by a company that does collections on behalf of various charities. I do collections for my local branch at supermarkets a few times a year and we usually do very well.

Charities door knock, it's what they do. There are many charities I don't agree with, if they come and request donations I politely tell them that it's not a charity I support or their policies aren't inline with my own ethics or something. Manners cost nothing!!!! :(

When a volunteer working for a charity comes to your home asking for money it's perfectly reasonable to tell them why You don't want to .
 
I used to donate to RSPCA, however when they rang and questioned why I would not up my payments I decided then my other charities deserved their share. How dare they ask why I wouldn't donate more. MORONS

This is highly likely, most (if not all) of the big charities employ companies to do this, the staff one day will wear say an RSPCA tabbard, the next a cancer research.

It's also perfectly proper to tell them why you won't donate they have after all come to your home seeking money.
I would not be rude but certainly would feel I had the right on my own property to say my piece .

Of course they ask why, this is normal for any charity especially if you have previously given. Knowing why helps them to understand if they are doing something people don't like. If enough people say the same thing then they might need to review their policies and strategies.

Also agree with some of the other posters that there is no need to be rude to charity collectors. I did a door to door years ago for a children's charity and it was horrible how nasty people can be.

I agree. The RSPCA are under-funded so can only do as best as they can. We may well not like that they can't help certain animals but their hands are often tied with regard to regulations and when they are allowed to act. To be rude to individual people who are working for the RSPCA is ridiculous.

I was rung up about this, and, no, I didn't verbally abuse the man. If any of you volunteers don't know or realise how many millions the RSPCA has used of the publics donations to fund their anti hunting campaign, then perhaps you should collect for another charity. I also know first hand of dogs being PTS rather than rehomed in a working environment. I detest hypocrisy.
 
I don't have much time for the RSPCA for a number of reasons but I personally would not be rude to any charity collector. I was however subjected to verbal abuse when I politely told a "door knocker" that I gave regularly to certain charities and I was unable to commit to any more. I also refuse to give my bank details to someone on my doorstep!
 
Cundlegreen, the only point of my post that was aimed at you was the 'there are two sides to every story'.
I also detest hypocrisy. You don't want to go there with me. I could a) blow holes in some of the idiotic threads on this forum and b) tell you all stories that would make your screens melt.

Underfunded but the upper management take home a healthy salary.
I've had many dealings with the RSPCA and they have never had the animals best intrest at heart in any of the matters. There hands were not tied due to regulations they just didn't want to know. But they were perfectly happy to turn up at our riding school and look at our horses.
Have also seen them turn a blind eye at a horse sale when there were to many ponies in a pen. They walked passed the pen several times and when I pointed out the welfair issue to them they just fobbed me off, I went and found the organiser of the sale and complained and the seller was made to pay for another pen and split his animals up.
So I'm sorry I don't like the RSPCA but they are only intrested in the big rescues that get them in the news. While I wouldn't be rude I would tell the people I would not donate, this often causes them to ask why and I will tell them the truth.

And this is where your arguement falls flat on your face!!! I honestly cannot say I've seen 194,695 stories of rescued animals, or 150,833 stories of the complaints they've investigated, or 4,168 stories of the convictions they've brought in the press?? and this all in one year!? (figures taken from this: http://www.rspca.org.uk/media/facts) I don't know maybe I'm reading all the wrong papers??!!!!
