Hoof Balance - under run heels, long heels? Toe…. length

I know you asked for photos of balanced shod hooves, so this isn’t what you asked for - sorry! I strongly recommend delving into this guy’s content (David Landreville / Hoof Builders) https://www.facebook.com/share/14YxFguXgmE/?mibextid=wwXIfr...

    Discuss trimming approaches with me...

Unfortunately there is a wide range of competence both from barefoot trimmers and also with farriers. I had a farrier achieve a similar result to the one in your photo. OP I have been binge watching David Landreville ‘s videos (Hoof Builders - he is a former farrier who no longer uses shoes)...

What did you wear to ride "back then"?

When I was little (1980s) I had 2 pairs of stretchy red nylon trousers. I outgrew them in length and when I started going to the RS mum stitched the legs from one onto the other to lengthen them, added a pair of knee patches, and tried to dye them brown. The dye job resulted in a strange colour...

How to mat concrete yard so hooves don't get worn too short?

I have approximately half my concrete yard covered in rubber stable mats. Yes they are slippery if it’s icy and they tend to drift a bit, but they work ok for us. I’m surprised their feet get too short, mine don’t, I feed forage plus hoof and skin balancer and have to rasp their feet weekly.

Jumping confidence - stepping up to the mark?

Don’t worry, some posters have the tact of a rampaging rhino and are best put on UI. I can sympathise as I have an older welsh d who enjoys jumping so much the brakes fail. I would suggest finding a good (encouraging) instructor and breaking it down into baby steps until you have your...

    Long hoof

Hi, in case it is useful I wrote a longish post on this thread which points to the David Landerville Facebook and website. He has a lot of content , some of which is free, which I hope will be helpful. Wishing you the best of luck, I think your horse will need a lot of gradual work doing on a...

Pics. Very upright, high heel feet

I forgot to say something which is that David Landerville lets the horse guide him doing the trimming. He trims them loose so that if they don’t like what he is doing they can walk away. He will do a little then let the horse put it’s leg down and see if it feels more comfortable - is it...

Pics. Very upright, high heel feet

They do look quite high to me though I’m no expert. I have been binge watching David Landerville on Facebook and YouTube. I don’t want to miss quote him, and recommend you watch his videos but he seems to be saying too high heels tips the weight onto the toe, causing erosion of the tip of the...
