I do this and works brilliantly for me.
My horse doesn't cope well with dust so a small bed is best, I just sprinkle comfybed (shavings/wood pellet mix £6 per bag) in the back third and sweep out completely every day. He's out 7am-6pm.
Takes me minutes to muck out, cheap easy and my horse...
In my experience the section people most struggle with is lungeing. Practice practice practice, in the gloves that you will be wearing on the day (as this makes a difference!) and as someone has already said check equipment properly, secure stirrups etc.
Try and practice lungeing some very lazy...
Silver gaffa tape!! The ONLY thing I found stopped the rubbing!
I tried all sorts of fleecy stuff and it all rubbed to some extent. With the gaffa tape no rubs at all and his hair has grown back.
I use a shires 'bucket' muzzle and he wears it 24/7 as he's a fatty.
Thank you everyone for the replies and suggestions, he's been wearing it about 6-7 weeks, if didn't think the hole had gotten much bigger but it's hard to tell!
He is ridden about 4 times a week, mixture of hacking and schooling.
He gets a cup of top spec lite per day, no idea about droppings as he is out in a big group.
Has anyone done this??
Fatty wears his 24/7, it has helped massively but he is still porkier than I would like and seems to have 'plateaued' at his current weight.
He has developed impressive speed at eating in the muzzle so wondering if people have any suggestions for making the hole...
No unfortunately not, huge field, lots of horses, no opportunity to strip graze.
I have tried that in the past though on a different yard and he seems to see electric fencing as a challenge... It's never kept him in one place for long lol.
Thank you very much for your replies.
I know he is not immune to grass, however if I keep the muzzle on 24/7 as I am doing now and his weight continues to decrease at the current rate, I'm going to have the opposite problem - an underweight horse. Which is admittedly better than an overweight...
Hello all :)
After piling on a crazy amount of weight in a 2 week period at the beginning of May, my cob who lives out has been wearing his grazing muzzle all the time (bar when he is brought in for an hour and a half ish each day for a groom and ride).
He has lost a fair bit of weight and...

Yes, my horse got choke badly twice on this feed, must be drier than others. I soaked before feeding after the first episode but think it left her predisposed to it as she got it again.
I have a Roma 'bucket' style one which hasn't rubbed (unlike shires one I had previously).
I think different brands fit different horses so it's a bit of trial and error!
I had a fiat 500 on rental and it was TINY! Must admit I didn't like how it drove either :o
Another vote for the Peugeot 106 here, small car with decent amount of room and mega cheap to run!
Hi there :)
Can anyone recommend a good, reliable farrier in Lincoln?
I have only just moved over this way and had an appointment yesterday with a farrier in who's card I found on the yard noticeboard, but he cancelled on me last minute yesterday :( pretty annoying seeing as I made...
