Rubber mats with corner of bedding

How many of you have rubber mats and then only a small corner of bedding? What do you think to it? I am at my wits end with my messy mare, she has been on pellets, straw, shavings, shavings with pellets underneath (currently) and it is just costing me a fortune. The bed is always in such a mess and I have to chuck out so much everyday. Thinking of having rubber matting throughout and then just a corner of straw as it is so cheap. I just can't justify what I am paying for bedding at the moment when I have to throw so much out each day. If you have any photos of your stables like this then that would be great. Thanks!
 
No photos, but my mare has a corner just to soak the wee up..
Daughters mare is an nightmare and we don't even put bedding down.
I have used mega sorb successfully in the last, but it's expensive and I can't really justify it now.

I'm about to do this with Rowan who pees for England! I've had them on pellets (wood) for years but even they've given up with him so I've changed him over to Pro Bed on rubber matting. Trial and error ATM, he's quite tidy so I'm trying a full bale at the back of the box so he does have a cushion, throw a scattering on the floor and just take out the wet each day, see how long it lasts that way, I was using 4 bags (£2.35 a bag!) of pellets a week for him so if a bale of this (£6.20 I think) can last 5 - 6 days, I'll be happy; if that doesn't work, I'll just throw a shovelful down each day and see how that goes. I do have the advantage he's young, at grass all day and not rugged so no smelly rugs to deal with and I can swill down with water each day this way too if I need to.

Yes I do it, make sure the bedding is deep enough though even if it's a small corner bit. I only have a small corner bit ( I don't bring it out too mucn if you see what I mean ) but if I don't do it deep enough when she wees it just runs out underneath, I need depth to soak it up.

This is mine, it doesn't look like a small bed but my stable is 12'x15' so a full bed would be ridiculous. I put a full bale of shavings in at the Start of the week and run it down through the week, it works well with my mare
 
Mine has one wheelbarrow full of loose straw spread very thinly at the back 1/3 of the stable just to stop the wee splashing her legs, wee goes under the rubber into a gully to a drain. It essentially looks like she has almost no bed but she's happy to lie directly on the rubber. Every day I sweep the whole lot out and it takes five minutes and is very cost effective.
 
I have rubber mats. I put in a whole bale of shavings, which lasts a week. I bank most of them into a corner he doesn't get too and then I spread a thin layer over the rest. I always worry about him slipping as he is barefoot. keeps the smell down too as when i did a small area he ALWAYS missed.
 
Our event horses that were on rubber mats had half a bale of straw added everyday in the middle of their stable and this was just swept out daily and replaced. One was a box walker and she had some hemp put down in the middle, enough to absorb wee and again, this was swept out everyday and replaced.

I personally have a full bed on rubber mats (of straw) but my horse is clean and it is personal preference.

I do this and works brilliantly for me.
My horse doesn't cope well with dust so a small bed is best, I just sprinkle comfybed (shavings/wood pellet mix £6 per bag) in the back third and sweep out completely every day. He's out 7am-6pm.
Takes me minutes to muck out, cheap easy and my horse doesn't cough.
