    Paddock management costs

We have a small yard, about 8 acres of paddocks, thinking of getting someone in to weed kill and fertilise them but have no idea how much per acre is the going rate - based in Surrey. How much do people pay?

    New horse - WWYD?

If the vet has passed and insurance company are happy I would go ahead. Maybe check insurance company would cover cost of removing chip if it ever came to that and definately see if you can negotiate a reduction in price. You never know - good luck.

    Beware gas colic

Sorry about your horse Thistle, colic is awful, My horse took a turn for the worse again yesterday. Gas colic turned to impacted although not too bad, another vet visit, paraffin up the nose and a night in the stable with no food, She passed two droppings over night so is now in field...

    Beware gas colic

I arrived at the yard today to find my horse laying down in the field. I rarely see this. Watched her for a little while it became obvious she was in pain. The previous evening I had turned her out in a field which had been rested for two weeks. The vet came and diagnosed gas colic. She...

Bits - down grading from a Pelham

Definitely try the waterford, my horse was in a Pelham for jumping and she tended to lean down and pick up speed. We changed to a loose ring waterford and its great, head up more, no leaning, have brakes without having to pull. Waterfords are nice bits in the right hands.

    Fairfax Girth Trial

I've had the fairfax girth for about 4 weeks now. My horse is quite sensitive around the girth and had a couple of dry patches from some old sores. Since using the girth the dry patches have all but disappeared. Not noticed much difference on the flat, however, since using the girth she has...

Advertising on side of horse box?

Spoke to VOSA today, I have to write to their head office in Leeds stating what I use the box for, what I intend writing on it and what the business is and they will decide if I can go ahead. If they say yes then it will be good to have that in writing and keep the letter in the lorry.

Advertising on side of horse box?

I should have been a bit clearer on the business. I do sports massage therapy so the lorry has nothing to do with my business, I just thought having my details on the lorry would be a good form of advertising as we compete most weekends The lorry is 6.5t and its only used for my horse and...

I am thinking of putting my name and website on my lorry for my business but someone told me it could affect my insurance / or there could be rules regarding this. The lorry is in my name and I am a sole trader and its an equine business. Will call insurance company tomorrow but in the...

    Horsebox dilemma

The bodywork is mainly a few bits on the cab. We have decided to stick with it. It has been no trouble for 2 years so I won't begrudge the spend to keep it going. Thank you for all your comments :)

    Horsebox dilemma

Had lorry 2 years and have spent around £700 getting it through 2 platings, so not much really. I am tending to go with better the devil you know, it has been a good reliable box and has never broken down.

    Horsebox dilemma

I have a P reg 6.5t lorry which needs probably £1500 spent on it (clutch, cambelt, bodywork). It's a nice George smith, Iveco Daily lorry easy to drive. Do we spend that amount on an old lorry or upgrade. To upgrade to something worthwhile in the 6.5t range is quite expensive. not sure...
