Horsebox dilemma

I have a P reg 6.5t lorry which needs probably £1500 spent on it (clutch, cambelt, bodywork). It's a nice George smith, Iveco Daily lorry easy to drive.

Do we spend that amount on an old lorry or upgrade. To upgrade to something worthwhile in the 6.5t range is quite expensive. not sure OH would cope this expense.

The other option is to go for a 3.5t but I'm really not sure on these. I have one horse 16h warmblood (approx 550kg) so would be within the payload but would not be able to take anyone else.

To be honest I'd probably spend the cash if you're happy with the box itself. There'sno guarantee if you buy a new wagon that something won't go wrong with it! My mum was saying this about our 7.5T - get it resprayed, get bits fixed here and there then get a newer one (ours is also P reg). My sister and I think we'd rather the moeny was spent on sorting the bits and bobs out and then keep it!

Depending on how long you have had your lorry, how long since you spent big money on it? If that £1,500 will see you right for 3 years its not much in the big picture.

Had lorry 2 years and have spent around £700 getting it through 2 platings, so not much really.

I am tending to go with better the devil you know, it has been a good reliable box and has never broken down.

If you like it and in otherwise good nick might be worth it. It's the bodywork side I'd be most careful about - will it need more soon?
Could you get a newer chassis and swap the body to avoid replacing the whole box?.

The bodywork is mainly a few bits on the cab. We have decided to stick with it. It has been no trouble for 2 years so I won't begrudge the spend to keep it going.
