How many people realistically keep their horse as a pet?

Both mine are retired now and are both pets on DIY. Much less stressful than having to ride them, especially in this kind of weather.

painting iodine onto soles to harden?

Countrywide Farmers (or that type of store). It's best to get it from the farming section rather than the horse section. Same goes for the purple spray - the stuff in the farming section is the real heavy duty stuff, unlike the horse variety which is much weaker.

painting iodine onto soles to harden?

Yes, I have used it with great results. My old, flat footed, thin soled TB had his shoes off in July and I painted neat iodine on his soles every other day or so for a few weeks and now only use it about once a week. Nobody believed he would ever be able to walk barefoot, but the iodine...

    And.... so it begins AGAIN!

Don't let her take him unless she gives you back the installments you have already paid.

Horse has become impossible to hack

Has he had a fright? Mine became rather difficult for a while after tree branches landed on the power lines next to his field. Frightened him silly and he was really not himself for a while.

    RESPONSE TO URGENT HELP NEEDED

TBH, I would be very surprised if the horse was actually put to sleep at the side of the road. I can understand this in an emergency, but surely a vet wouldn't want this to happen with the possibility of horrified onlookers coming past in cars/bikes/on foot/horseback? Did it actually happen...

Home needed for two TB geldings!

I agree with this. They are stressy, no longer young TBs. To move them now would cause them far more grief and trauma than to leave them in familiar surroundings. I have an elderly TB who is stressy in the stable. He is retired now, but is actually a bit calmer these days than he was when he...

    looking for flint

If you can remember a few more details it would help. Where did the girls he was sold to live? You could try looking at Pony Club websites/jumping show results etc. etc. Google is your friend if you give it enough information.

So cross - how can people do this?

Have copied this thread onto the IHDG. Have also looked on Arabian Lines and the poster there looking for the foal is the same person as on the IHDG. The mare she has is Welsh, she was separated from her 3-4 month old foal at the Holmfirth sale and she also has/had the snots. Wouldn't it...

So cross - how can people do this?

Do you think it's the same one? Brilliant if it is! I have a log in at the IHDG so can ask them to pop over to this forum if you think it is the same foal. Are you near York/Holmfirth?

So cross - how can people do this?

Here is a thread from the IH forum re the little mare bought at the sale minus her 4 month old filly. Really hope it is the same one. Good luck with these poor little mites, OP! http://ihdg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gh11&action=display&thread=124511&page=1

    A timely reminder about tapewrom

    Ditto

OMG. Can't even reply to this.

It's actually more likely that someone will pose as a genuine horse lover anxious to give the mare a good home and will hand over the £100 with lots of false smiles and tall tales. Within 24 to 48 hours she will then be sold on to an abattoir where the false nicey, nicey buyer will make a quick...

OMG. Can't even reply to this.

There is a huge difference between having the knackerman or hunt come out to your horse's home and putting the horse down in familiar surroundings and sending him/her to a sale where they will be dragged around, bought by the meat man and then shot in an abattoir. If you were very elderly...

Concern after colic incident - Help please

It may just be that it's taking him a while to get over it. I know how you feel though, as it's a bit of a worry. One of mine has spasmodic colic quite often, unfortunately. He is very susceptible to tape wormers, getting wet and cold (although an IDX and rugged), and wet, green grass...
