    Vets and Helmets

I'm a doctor and horse owner I think they absolutely should wear helmets as a matter of course. Equine vets do an extremely high risk job dealing with unpredictable and often distressed large animals who they don't know well and serious injuries are pretty common. A vet is completely reliant...

    Alternatives to small flake shavings?

Yes - I'm now on Winter number 2 of Concorde Pellets and am still very happy with them. I have one very messy horse (mare) who doesn't lie down much and I want her to feel as comfortable as I can so I make her a really thick bed to start with about 12 bags of pellets to start and some shavings...

    Alternatives to small flake shavings?

I found burleybed very dusty and I coughed like mad after opening a new bale or moving the bed around. My horse seemed fine with it so I'm not sure if I have a sensitivity to it butI know I'm not the only person to report this. I found probed (which is rape straw) good as a similar alternative...

    What jobs do you do??

It depends on your skill set and expectations for income but there's lots of demand for cleaners who often can charge £15 per hour and you can obviously choose your hours to suit your lifestyle. Also similar for dog walkers.

Bateson Ascot vs Chaval Liberte Country Touring Trailer

I'm hoping to purchase a trailer fairly soon and have been looking online at these 2 trailers. Both are a similar price and spec. I have read in older threads about the CL trailers being quite flimsy and ageing quite badly - is this still the case? Both seem to get good reviews for being easy...

    Tack room size

Hi all A question about tack room size.... I'm about to apply for planning for a stable block (3 stables) and am trying to decide between a 1.8m and 2.4 m width tack room. The tack room will be long (5.4m) as I am going to build into the overhang so on paper a 1.8m width offers enough floor...

    Storing hay in mobile buildings

Hmm - I think we have the same district council looking at your location (Pershore) so that's reassuring (although annoying for you - I'm not planning to get an ugly artic!!) - they do seem relaxed / reasonably favourable towards planning for horsey stuff round here so I am toying with just...

    Storing hay in mobile buildings

Hi Deciding whether to do a planning application for permanent stables or just to get shelter + store on skids...... Out of interest does anyone store their winter hay + feed in a building on skids? If so, how do you go about complying with rules about moving the building regularly - do you...

    Mobile units

Hi All I have a couple of practical Qs regarding mobile units..... In spring I'm going to be ordering mobile storage for a single horse shelter / hay & feed store / tack room. I'm struggling with deciding on whether to go for one large combination unit or to split it up into smaller units. On...

Fair price for grazing + access to stable?

Thanks for this - I'm not going to be asking her to look after my horse for me - rather a mutually convenient arrangement whereby I can do her horse on some days and she can do mine on other days in return so she's not really obliged to work for me in that sense and as such I would view it as a...

Fair price for grazing + access to stable?

Thanks for your thoughts -I'm new to this so want to get it right and it would be nice to see some return on investment / efforts even if only to subsidise my own horsey hobby! I will definitely look at the BHS contract - I think sensible both parties have a clear notice period and that things...

Fair price for grazing + access to stable?

I'm in the lucky position of having just purchased 5 acres of good quality grazing land in Worcestershire which is surrounded by an excellent network of bridleways. I have plans to get mains water on site, new gates, and to improve some of the fencing which will hopefully all be done this year...

    Black Ifor Williams, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

I have no evidence it is stolen, just that it's a bit odd that these appear to be travelling people with no horses.

    Black Ifor Williams, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

I have noticed that some caravans + vans have appeared on the verge near my house in the Aston Fields area of Bromsgrove. There are no livestock or horses in the vicinity but there is a very shiny, new black ifor williams double horse trailer parked up. I cannot see any distinguishing marks...

    Experiences of horse sharing

Thanks for your comments. The money aspect is very much based on back of an envelope sums. The high cost was mainly due to the fact I was accounting for part livery rather than DIY (livery being the single biggest cost) It is useful to know that £200 is more than people are willing to pay and...
