Puzzled - "wrong horse put down" article?

I've put down some that I'm 99% certain don't even have a passport... And found plenty with the wrong passport for other things. I wouldn't blame the vet. All very worrying though and I will certainly be more careful in future if it's anyone other than the owner with the horse!

Free lab tests for PPID (Cushings)

This year it's also valid for 1 retest if your horse/pony is on prascend (previous years has only been for undiagnosed horses) :)

Dental exclusions - know full details of your clinical history!

Caries would normally result in an exclusion for fractured teeth, given that caries can often lead to a fracture. It could be worth pointing out to you insurance company that if you had used an EDT instead of your veterinary practice, then any dental notes wouldn't be on the veterinary...

Bold to scared horse - have I ruined him?

Ex-racers are easily scared. A lot of the time the 'happily' pulling you in to a fence that seems like bravado is actually trying to get it over and done with quickly. Mine whittles incessantly jumping, the minute anything goes properly wrong that's it! When everything is going right he has a...

Ed the Ex Racehorse goes to camp!

He's a handsome boy! Glad you enjoyed! Ooh I didn't realise there was an autumn one. I'll have to have a look, might take my boy :)

    Liver problems - prognosis?

^ Lactulose can be beneficial if the horse is showing neurological signs, as it helps 'mop up' the extra nitrogen in the intestinal tract that the liver is struggling with. Metronidazole can also help (I am assuming your horse may already be on this as the antibiotic?) as it gets rid of some of...

most embarrassing moment during a dressage test/SJ round/XC?

Wilby's first time at a venue where the dressage judges sit in a proper box at the end of the arena. He spotted them in their going up the centre line the second time, and wouldn't stop until his nose was pressed up against the glass... He's a friendly soul! I also had a bridlegate incident at...

    Unsure what to do next

What breed is she? PSSM could be a potential cause (it results in muscular soreness) but is really quite uncommon in most breeds. I'd also expect some changes in bloods...

Advice - should I have to pay?

I'd be miffed if I was asked to just whip some wolf teeth out 'while you're here' - from the other side of the fence! They shouldn't have been removed without your permission, as an act of non-emergency surgery. Even if they couldn't get hold of you at the time it could have been arranged for...

After hours vet call out fee

Also usually takes a lot more diesel to get to an out of hours call - for my 'day calls' they're usually organised in a logical sort of route, but it's not unheard of to do >500 miles over the course of a weekend (I have clocked this twice!) purely as the calls can be really spread out. Hence...

Tips to teach rider to sit up after jump...

Might be easiest if he comes into the fence with a finger hooked already under the neck strap? Depends on how straight and honest the pony is though - although he certainly looks like he enjoys his jumping!

Nosebleed during gastroscopy - Is this normal?

The nasal passages contain loads of blood vessels - if caught by the fairly rigid scope this can cause a nosebleed that looks rather dramatic (especially when they snort it all over you/the wall/the floor etc!) but isn't anything to be worried about providing it stops quickly :) Same thing can...

newbie to sarcoids - fly repellants and rugs

The yellow summer fly cream is very good, not on the sarcoid but you can smear it on around 1cm around it. Please be aware that for every 6-12 months the sarcoid is there, it's root will approximately double in size, and every summer it is there you run the risk of it spreading/seeding more...

    Broadway BE80?

Hi, had anyone done Broadway BE80? Just wondering if it would be a suitable re-introduction to eventing for me and my horse (who can be a bit 'special' at times!) after a few years away from eventing. If not, which events in the south west (we are Swansea area) would people recommend?
