It really saddens me to think what’s going on in arenas all over the world by professionals. I think part of the problem is that they put everything down to them being fit, hot competition horses.
Also rather maddening is the amount of people who are straight away there to climb up the backside...
To be fair, Harlow rides a dam sight kinder than some professionals out there who are lorded as being the best in the world. From what I’ve seen, I’d rather be one of her ponies than a dressage horse in the hands of CDJ.
We had a few years of fava bean crop grown on our fields. They wait til the pods go black and look dead before they harvest them. We get loads of dog walkers who use the footpath asking why we let the crop go bad 😂
Chunky monkey.
I have a Chunky Monkey dressage saddle for Millie and it’s incredible. Doesn’t budge an inch, is so comfortable and Millie goes really well in it.
I can’t even bring myself to watch it. I can’t get these things out of my head and it really affects me.
Humans getting their hands on horses was one of the worst things that could ever happened to them.
I had a mare with the mildest PSD, yet she simply couldn’t function properly with it. I wouldn’t rule out the suspensory issue as a cause.
Planting was one of Polly’s PSD moves. She simply wouldn’t go forwards.
Our fields were far wetter last winter, but I’m struggling with the grey, dreary days with that sharp wind. I’ve had enough of it all.
Is it all really worth it anymore? I don’t think it is. Winter just makes me miserable.
I can cope with anything provided my horses are doing ok. If there’s a problem with one of them, my whole life gets affected.
Typically, my horses always have a way of getting weird and wonderful rare complaints that end up baffling the veterinary profession.
I’ve had horses since childhood so...
We had one bale at the end of last year that nothing on the yard would touch. I was a bit worried as it was an early one of a whole batch but fortunately they were fine with the rest of it. It looked and smelt fine but none of the horses would entertain that one bale.
I use wood pellets in my rabbits litter tray. He’s a house rabbit who permanently has full run of his own room, so doesn’t have bedding. He’s got rugs to lie on but he prefers the small bit of laminate floor that’s uncovered in his room.
Has anyone used? Currently using straw pellets for Millie but after initially being impressed with them, the bed started getting really wet and thin and I found myself having to top up with a bag almost every day. She is exceptionally wet and her stable doesn’t drain very well, plus we get...
My first thought was that it’s very horse dependent. I’ve had some horses that prefer a stronger contact and will actively seek to find the contact and take it forwards. Others prefer a lighter, ‘barely there’ feel.
I think you have to be careful with the latter with a horse who could be prone...
