I read all the ‘old school’ horse care books and pony manuals as a kid so I grew up with all the old terminology.
Set fair a stable, a wisp, strapping, quartering…
I also used to put straw under a sweat rug to help wick away moisture and we used duvets and blankets under rugs.
I miss those...
Well I didn’t meet any of my 2025 goals, and we lost Polly to EMS in the end.
I don’t really have goals for this year. I have a terrible habit of getting into my comfy routine and not wanting to sway from it. I have very little time off work and I generally end up using my weekend day off to...
I can totally understand how vets get attached to these animals. I’ve lost a massive amount of grooming dogs this year- quite a few elderly, some very sudden with unexpected things and a couple to cancer.
Each one has hit me hard. I see those dogs every 6 weeks and have done for years. You get...
Getting used to a darker bed has been hard, but the ease of mucking out for me has outweighed that. Millie can’t bury her poo in it so it makes my life 100 times easier.
I do miss a nice white bed though!
I use concord straw pellets and I try and leave the bed as undisturbed as possible. Take off poo and only take the wet off that comes to the top. I try not to dig down and disturb the bottom layer at all.
Mine is out 8 hours a day and has 2 bags a week (the pony only needs 1). If they were in...
I groomed a collie with Addisons. He had monthly injections and seemed to have a good quality of life.
He passed away last year quite suddenly, though he was an older boy.
My Equidry is a dream- lifesaver in downpours.
My cotswold compass wellies are in their second winter and i haven’t killed them yet. They are warm and bone dry inside.
My Ariat wythburns are brilliant too.
For years my friend would argue that the Puissance was vile. Pushing horses until most of them inevitably fail and knock the fence. I just used to shrug it off.
Now I fully agree.
